Back in 2020, some person or group left a bunch of brightly-painted rocks, some with a few gentle words on them, outside of the cancer treatment center I took my partner to.
I still remember how delightful it was to look down and see these scattered on the walkway.
Me: *reading a book*
Protag: "I'm so anxious about what's going to happen to these people I can see are in a dangerous situation."
Me: "'You utter fool, 'these people' are a ghost and a corpse, this is literally a memory you're watching to find out how they died. YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW THIS ENDS."
Also Me: "..."
Also me: *so anxious about what's going to happen to these people*
I ran out of single-panel ideas so this one took ~50 minutes. 😅
The "Make a Terrible Comic Day" website (https://makeaterriblecomicday.com/) linked to this post https://www.sophieyanow.com/a-gentle-comics-habit/ about making MOAR terrible comics
Okay no it's about making quick comics and getting in the habit.
The first comic is supposed to take 1 minute. I failed to make a 1-minute comic; I spent like 8 minutes on this one. I think that means I should make tomorrow's comic take less time instead of more, so maybe 7 minutes tomorrow? idk how this works.
I made a comic for #makeaterribleComicDay2026 !
Tangentially, Dead City is a complete webcomic and a good read! https://topazcomics.com/deadcity/welcome/ Slice-of-life gay romance in the zombie apocalypse. Pretty gentle and very low on action and danger. 💖
Me: *searches for "Dead City" on StoryGraph*
StoryGraph: *long list of titles. Some don't even contain both "dead" and "city"*
Me: "okay I guess I need to add it"
Me: *tries to figure out which if any of the many Michelle Parker author entries is the one for this book*
Me: "oh this one is in a comics anthology, maybe it's her" *clicks author name*
StoryGraph: "here's everything this one wrote! Including "Dead City"."
Me: ...
Me: "sensing your search function leaves something to be desired."

The thing I love best about this art is that Jewel is wearing glitter makeup and still looks androgynous. 💖
In the story, Jewel always uses flamboyant makeup for their nonbinary looks. Because it's far-future science fiction, I didn't feel bound by 21st century USA standards of femme/masc. But I didn't expect glitter makeup=androgynous to work visually even for my own sensibilities, and I'm so pleased and impressed that Dona pulled it off. :blobaww:
self, when your response to editing is "maybe I should just never publish anything again", it's time to stop editing for the day.
I love this paean to a lover's body and the things the author adored about his physique both before and after he lost weight. It's lovely to see fat-positivity in the context of weight loss.
Content note: there's lots of erotica on the site; this particular post is not erotica, but there's some explicit language and descriptions in it.
I have a selfie from 6 years ago of something -- a rash, maybe? -- on the small of my back.
I have no memory of either taking the selfie or having the rash.
And I usually remember selfies. "Oh, I took this one to send to my lover. This was to document the length of my hair. These thirty-eight were references for a book cover."
But this one. I don't remember any context for it at all. o_o
yay I put up my 2025 review/2026 goals post 🎉

DuckDuckGo's straw poll on AI:
It's linked to from their https://noai.duckduckgo.com/ search page but not, AFAICT, from their main search page, which perhaps explains the results. 😂
(I'd share the actual video, but it's pretty boring and, equally important, Very Large, so over the upload limit. And I have zero video-editing tools or experience.)
Jonathan Ong, a music streamer I love (https://www.twitch.tv/jonathanong/), has a "viewer headbang" alert, which comes from viewer-provided videos (processed to make them cooler).
Alinsa has poked me a few times to send in a video. Which I wanted to do because I have long hair that's perfect for headbanging. I finally got around to it on Monday night, the last night before my friend left (and therefore I wouldn't have someone to work the camera for me).
All this is just to say: hair go fwoosh.
My mother passed away very early this morning. A few hours ago.
I moved in with my parents in April to do care-giving for them. Mom broke her leg in May and has been on a long decline ever since. I've written about it extensively, but all in access-locked entries on Dreamwidth, which only a few of you have access to. I wanted the rest of you to know, as well.

I forgot to add day 2 to the day 1 post to make a thread for January, so quoting it now to add it in.
#WritersCoffeeClub 2 Talk about something you’ve retold.
The Princess, Her Dragon and Their Prince is a retelling of a @MicroSFF tootfic, where a king offers his daughter's hand to whoever slays the enemy dragon and is dismayed when the dragonslayer is another dragon. The princess is good with this outcome, however.
A friend linked me to the story with 'You should write this!' and O. Westin went 'Go for it, I'm fine with works inspired by my microfics'. So I did! http://books2read.com/princessdragonprince
#WritersCoffeeClub day 1: What’s the greatest benefit you’ve taken from the writing community online?
The top few would be encouragement, inspiration, and companionship. Encouragement is probably the most valuable to me. I like being part of a community that's all wrestling to do the same thing and all cheering one another on.
PSA for Discord users:
"@ here" does not do what most people think it does. @ here pings everyone who's currently online with access to the server. It does not just ping people who are following a specific channel. If you're online and have access to the server, it'll ping you even if you have the channel muted and, in fact, even if you have the whole server muted.
