Like, surely you have wondered why the press allowed Chomsky to be heard, while silencing so many others?
Wonder no more.
Like, surely you have wondered why the press allowed Chomsky to be heard, while silencing so many others?
Wonder no more.
Please, please do not try to salvage anything of Chomskys.
You got fooled.
Face it.
Own it.
Don't pretend like the words that once meant something to you were actually good.
That was just the sugar coated poison pill you took.
Leave it behind.
There were better thinkers, better scientists, better speakers and better socialists.
And the press regurgitated Chomsky at you to distract you from them.
As soon as Chomsky showed up in the Epstein files there were people saying "heeey, you know most of the epstein stuff you see is fake, right?"
fcuking chosmky.
@woozle is this perhaps a result of recent updates? I haven't noticed it before.
Here's a bug, I think.
Autoformat of lists doesn't care what numbers are input, it just puts 1, 2, 3, etc.
So this list goes 3, 4, 5 before formatting:
And it's annoying me, because someone asked a number of questions, and had them numbered.
I answered some of them, but my list got all messed up because of this silly bug.
Look, I don't write the rules.
Fact is, it's called Bifrost, not Hetfrost or Homofrost.
Mastodon.social and mastodon.online users should be grateful to @mcc and Cory Doctorow for drawing attention about the awful ToS that M.S and M.O were about to implement.
Apparently the foundation had received very poor pro bono advice. Now they will get better advice.
And of course, any knee-jerking bros that came out to defend the awful ToS should hang their heads in shame.
😆

If you think defederation is somehow a terrible threat to the fedi, you have no actual understanding of the fedi.
The right not to associate with poorly moderated instances is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to maintaining a tolerable atmosphere where also non-privileged people can thrive.
The instance I'm on has silenced Mastodon Social, and it's fine. Awesome , in fact.
Because here's the thing: The human attention span isn't infinite.
You ability to consume toots is not infinite.
You don't need to see everything, because you won't actually see everything.
Nobody drinks the feed uncut.
Connoisseurs cut it in different ways.
If you don't cut it, you're just chugging a vile mix of whatever bottles are on the shelf.
Schnapps with Doctor Pepper and Armagnac and Raki and Bourbon and Ouzo and Mountain Dew and Fizzy Orange.
Like a dumbass teenager that's siphoning off fractions from Dad's liquor cabinet.
But nobody's stopping you from doing that... unless you're one of the assholes the other instances don't want spoiling their flavor.
In which case, you're the real threat to the fedi, and should fuck off to Bluesky already.
Once again, for the people who joined from Twitter without a thorough cleanse:
Content Warnings are not censorship.
Content Warnings do not reduce your "reach".
Quite the contrary.
CWs mean people can reshare your post without worrying whether their own followers are in a headspace to read the content.
Same with filter tags. Properly tagged posts are safe to reshare.
Similar with AI-generated imagery: Posts without that vile slop are safe to reshare.
Unlearn the algorithm bullshit. Don't bring bad habits over here.
I believe the German peoples have it in them to defend democracy, come what may.
I believe Germans will show the world that if democracy makes a mistake, the actual democratic move is to correct the mistake, not foolishly stand by the prohibitive results.
Come what may: You've got this.
Every science (and arts like Mathematics ;) ) should have an accessibility effort.
In a nutshell: Explaining the discipline, right up to the cutting edge, in simple terms, for anyone to understand.
And I don't mean just explaining each term once and then going back to opaque technospeak - a running translation effort, in order to bring the entire discipline into the commons of humanity.
I remember still, seeing stickers in Copenhagen, featuring a beetle and a tomato, placed over the signs saying "billetautomat" (ticket automat), so that they said "bille tomat" (beetle tomato) instead.
All these moments will be lost, in time, like tears in the rain.
One thing is asking for mental health considerations.
Another thing is being angry that someone is asking for mental health considerations.
Aren't we over this, Mastodon?
People can ask for considerations. It's not nefarious.
It's also not an obligation, people can decline such requests within reason.
Knee-jerking against the very concept, however, is not OK and it's been done to death thousands of times already.
CWs are not nefarious. Filter tagging is not nefarious. Chill.
Hei, tech-able people!
Is there a way to share an RSS-subscribable feed for e.g. a substack newsletter?
It might be helpful if people on here could share the RSS-feed instead of the actual newsletter, so we can avoid giving traffic to the nazi sympathizer company.
If you don't pronounce "Glottal Stop" with a glottal stop, I don't know how to save you.
In case you were wondering:
Impartiality means siding with the truth, regardless of which side it agrees with (it tends to agree with the Left).
Impartiality doesn't mean "giving equal consideration to truthful accounts and obvious damned lies".
You know, in case it wasn't made clear through ostentiation.
Montaigne:
Deduction, in the domain of reality, is subject to Montaigne's carousel.
There is no formal escape from the carousel - nothing can be proven in a domain that is not axiomatic, because every proof will require proof-of-premise for each of its premises, ad absurdum/nauseam.
Hume:
Deduction, in the domain of human understanding, is not innate, and cannot be learned deductively.
In fact, "deductive learning" is a contradiction in terms. Deduction does not contain any mode for discovery, and is only able to shuffle around pre-obtained knowledge.
As such, no human ever uses deduction or indeed any other form of logic.
What humans use, is their neuronic brain's ultimately inductive process.
This is used for everything any human ever does with their brains, running either forward (learning from experience) or backwards (applying things learned from experience and so-called Abductive reasoning).
This inductive process is fully capable of emulating deduction, but there is no method by which an inductive emulation of deduction can actually be considered deductive. It's just that sometimes some beliefs are strong enough that they can safely be treated as if p=1, at which point logic-like rules apply. Until they don't.
Luckily, inductive processes have no problem with justifying when such deductive-like approaches can be applied : From experience.

In other news, I have been led to expect that a report will be coming to your attention, @woozle
I am bad at being polite to cultists.
Especially cultists that say "name the ones who died" when it is brought up that outing vulnerable people living in authoritarian ultra-conservative religious nations is tantamount to killing them.
This is an admission.
It is not an apology.
