Murray shows off his merge chops

If you implemented the most important features first and those are the features people want, improving those features is a bigger bang for your buck than adding side features.

That means refactoring, refining the experience, squashing out surprises... things that don't generate a press release, but delight your users.

You know... things we seem to have stopped doing.

This is a rare occasion where I wrote an article AND drew a bad cartoon to capture the fundamental problem with AI.

... and the answer to this problem comes straight out of the DORA research!

Popped over to Winnie's yesterday!

Weather ghastly.

Architecture excellent.

Google illegally chopping down a massive forest in Finland and even removing the topsoil so nothing can grow again.

Makes sense. If copyright no longer applies to big corporations, as LLMs have shown, then why should any other regulation?

I'm not sure an appropriate fine is even possible for this. And you can't put that forest back.

I predict we'll be having angry people burning down datacenters in the next couple years.

Someone send help to this sad data point, from the Future of Platform Engineering report!

Easy is taken! Doing it with LLMs makes it easy. It also makes it undifferentiated from what your intended audience could do with an LLM, so it's also worthless. Maybe there's a different approach in the age of excess...

Support responses from "Our AI Agent" can be described as instant, and wrong. My guess is that they are driving these decisions with the "time to respond" chart and nothing else.

If you boil out all the water to discover the essence of high-performance software delivery, there's one clear signal that drives all the practices.

New from Heidi Waterhouse: Controlled Delivery.

"Controlled Delivery is the set of practices that ensure you’re delivering valuable changes to software behavior, not just detonating a change across an entire ecosystem."

When output is free, volume stops being a viable strategy.

If Midas had depended on the value of gold, perhaps hoping to trade the gold he created to fund his lavish lifestyle of hosting ten-day-long parties, he would have quickly learned that his gold was no longer valuable. His touch would cause hyperinflation, and gold’s price would plummet. His skill would be as useful as turning everything you touch to ash.

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for all the "How do we speed up code review?" folks to realise that the answer is - as ever - to slow the f**k down.

In our Platform Engineering research at Octopus, we found that most orgs calculate Net Promoter Score (NPS) incorrectly.

Scott Clark has written up a really useful article on NPS. Find out what it is, when it's helpful, and a whole host of trip hazards to avoid.

It should be renamed "tragedy of the forums" as it _does_ seem to be true that as promotional material increases to a tipping point, a forum becomes only the people doing self-promotion with nobody to promote to.

...he said I quietly while leaving another Slack group that used to be a vibrant community.

Worth your time.
