Lol, this is an amazing story. A Canadian firm says it's going to use AI to extract more fossil fuels which can then be used to power AI

Just........wow 🫨

35 of 35 (!!) ballot measures on data centres in US midterms vote to restrict data centre development

28 of 35 feature over 70% voting to crack down on data centres

Some absolutely mind-boggling numbers in this excellent article. As I've been screaming for years now: AI is on track to become a major global polluting industry on par with the worst we've got today.

"Oh but you use email don't you??? Your data centre criticism is HYPOCRITICAL"

If you are wondering why the industry uses this line so much and why tech companies refuse to disclose what is actually happening inside data centres, this is why.

I wonder if Anthropic loudly and unambiguously hand-wringing that it's not going to be able to burn enough fossil fuels is going to discourage climate orgs from buying obscenely expensive Claude subscriptions

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot

A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:

'We missed the 1.5c target so that means it's too late to stop climate change'

Ah, we missed the 'zero road deaths' target this year. What a shame. Time to take the hummer out, squeeze my eyes shut and smash the accelerator in a pedestrian zone.

Come on people, let's make some sense here

We really, really tried to warn you about Anthropic and Claude. All the absurd public displays of Claude subscriptions during the #quitGPT thing were a bad sign no one seems to actually understand the fundamental problem here.

Well, congrats folks. Now, Anthropic has announced it will use xAI's ultra-polluting fully fossil-fuelled, air-polluting community-choking Colossus data centre to power the computation needed for you to maintain your toxic dependency on its sycophantic sentence generator
