Just heard about @kagihq and it sounded interesting till I looked at the pricing and every single plan includes 'AI'. I don't want that shit. I sure don't want to pay for that shit.
(well, because we didn't have the bandwidth and because hotlinking was basically a guarantee they were not respecting anyone's rights)
Besides the whole stealing-everything-from-everyone thing and the horrific exploitation of data workers thing and the environmental devastation thing and the fundamentally-not-doing-what-they-say-it-does thing and…and…
LLM crawlers are so aggressive they're causing major problems for independent tech services like sourcehut (a github alternative)
We used to outright block hotlinking on websites because we didn't have the bandwidth to spare. This isn't so easy to block.

Are you an REI member? The REI worker union is asking members to vote NO/withhold in their current board elections. More here: https://www.ourrei.com/2025-rei-board-elections
I wonder if there will ever be a day I (check LinkedIn and) don't regret checking LinkedIn

What #rss readers are good? Don't want to create an account anywhere so that probably means desktop. #RSSReader #IndieWeb
So there's apparently a settlement in a #lawsuit against #Patreon for sharing video access data with #Meta without users' consent.
The class includes anyone who accessed video on Patreon between 2016-04-01 and 2024-09-23 and at the same time had a #Facebook account.
The requirements for submitting a claim, however, include providing your *current* Facebook profile URL.
So if you HAD an account but have since deleted it (or delete it now), you are eligible but they will deny your claim??
@eleventy I'm updating my #11ty version and got an error about a missing file extension (writing a .htaccess file, so I'll just add the front matter to suppress it for that). The error message included a link but it seems like it's the wrong one for this error - https://www.zachleat.com/web/trailing-slash/ ?
I just updated from @eleventy 3.0.0-alpha.10 to 3.0.0-alpha.17 and holy cow that memoization layer helps - build time on my host dropped 80% (I may make a lot of calls to slugify 👀 )
Windows is now regularly harassing me about the fact that I have not "upgraded" to their full-on spyware edition. They also wouldn't even let me because of some unspecified piece of hardware that doesn't meet their "requirements" for 11. This is a relatively new gaming rig. I would like to invite Microsoft to go to hell.
I've seen a number of posts/docs about using integrations or Github Actions to automate deploying sites built with @eleventy, but I don't want to put my site's content on GH (or, really, to have to upload it anywhere except my web host). So I rolled a lil deploy script and a cron job to run it on my host server.

Poking around @hallo because they're German so presumably they're better about data & privacy than American hosts, and they support all kinds of stuff. (I'm only looking to host a static site rn, but I do have a few things on pythonanywhere that would be nice to consolidate.)
Feels weird that I can just hop on sftp and see the usernames of everyone on my host, tbh (makes sense given the way they've set it up, and default filesystem permissions prevent access to each others' directories, but 🤷 )
I wondered why I didn't see NK57 on the Typodermic #Fonts website, and holy shit - it turns out it wasn't coming up in the catalog search because it's one of *hundreds* they released to the public domain at some point, with woff2 files and all! https://typodermicfonts.com/public-domain/
I'm so excited to waste a bunch of time looking through all these 😁
TIL #InternetArchive ignores robots.txt. And their own robots.txt allows #bots to crawl everything except /control/ and /report/ (which is not where I'm finding archived content).
So they'll scrape and archive whatever they want and make it available to any #genAI #crawlers to slurp it all up? Am I understanding this right?
Sounds great for #AIEthics 🙃
My favorite nerdy #tea shop launched their #Kickstarter to fund a tea bagging machine today and funded in <5h and I'm so happy for them!
...plus if they can hit enough of their stretch goals, they'll get a second machine for teas with allergens, and a third for ✨ glitter tea ✨

Beautiful prints from @anaisfae 💖
My brother, who knows I am strongly opposed to generative AI and that that was a major factor in my decision to leave my last job, decided it would be fun to aggressively flaunt his use of an image generator at me yesterday, and to try to harass me into going along with it. So, I finally compiled a list of some of the articles, podcasts, etc. that I've collected links to this year, and figured it may as well live on my site.

got an attempted LI cold connect that done did a @kevlin 😆
