Some games are internationally engineered to be kill able with a remote switch. ‘Ubisoft Connect went down briefly and made Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced unplayable on PC, despite having an offline mode’ https://www.eurogamer.net/assassins-creed-black-flag-resynced-ubisoft-connect-outage-offline-mode #gaming #SKGaming #Ubisoft
Thoughts on the Sony PS6 no discs & wiped libraries controversy: nearly everything FOSS & digital sovereignty advocates have been warning about has been coming true these days. Proprietary systems attract people to them with their promises of greater convenience & greater capabilities - the thing is those promises can be easily revoked at a later date. Choose your digital ecosystems wisely my friends!
Sony's decision to end physical media for gaming is a great way to kill my interest in the next generation of consoles
Look, it's fine that dark mode is a thing and it's probably okay that flat window styles are popular but like..
Did we collectively have to choose the same two colors of dark gray and blurple for every modern app?
We all love to hate on Google et al for reblanding, but with respect to this complaint, even the FOSS community seemingly isn't immune. Haaaaalp.
Loyal dissenters, as studied by Dominic Packer, are people who strongly identify with their group but *are also capable of dissenting with their group's norms.* They are key agents of reshaping and moving groups toward better. They are, as he calls them in a delightful paper title, "rebels with a cause."
Disrupting the empathy dampening is absolutely possible, and the more you cultivate habits of empathy, the more you become willing to point out hypocritical groups, the more you play this role

@rgarner a few meta-limericks I enjoy but can't credit either:
There once was a girl named Sue
Whose limericks stopped at line two
There once was a man named Dunn
And lastly, the one about Nero
There once was an X from place B
Who satisfied predicate P
The X did thing A
In a specified way
Resulting in circumstance C.

Fun fact: the Reading was a major northeastern US railroad (made famous internationally by its place on the Monopoly gameboard), which ceded its rail business in 1976 to the newly formed Conrail consortium. But the company kept most of its non-railroad real estate holdings, and today mostly operates cinemas (including NYC's Angelika) in several countries.
(The Reading Company was named for the Pennsylvania city, and so is pronounced with the past tense of what you do with words on a page).

Almost 40 orgs just signed an open letter telling Google to reverse Android Developer Verification, we're one of them.
Google has not backed down and seems to have no intention of keeping Android open. Check out our newest video covering what's going on and what we can do: https://youtu.be/5MZfGq5F1NU

Let's do this.
The algorithm failed music.
Music recommendation algorithms were supposed to help us cut through the noise, but they just served us up slop. Spotify leadership didn't see themselves as a music company, but as a time filler. The employee explained...
