The third quarter of my 2026 book #quilt top is assembled. I am not a perfectionist or an expert sewist, and I'm not buying any supplies for this; it's exactly as handmade and wonky as I want it to be. Slide to the second image to see the books included in this section. Or here's the list, from top left: Mike Chen, Here and Now and Then; Florence Knapp, The Names; Kaliane Bradley, The Ministry of Time; Trevor Noah, Born a Crime; Jac Jemc, False Bingo; Claudia Cravens, Lucky Red; Sarah Crouch, Middletide; Matt Haig, The Midnight Train; Eric Puchner, Dream State; Richard Powers, Playground; Rita Chang-Eppig, Deep as the Sky, Red as the Sea; and Sarah Penner, The Lost Apothecary. #books #bookstagram #quilting #coverart

The #chalk on our walk this weekend is based very loosely on a panel of the #bayeuxtapestry featuring a #comet #istimirantstella #halleyscomet

In September we went to a charity event with a fairytale theme, so I crocheted a #beanstalk to attach to my son's #wheelchair. #crochet

September #chalk at our house was a little refreshing pool; we've had a very hot autumn here. #chalkart

We went to a charity 5K this morning, with a fairytale theme, so I crocheted a beanstalk for my kid's wheelchair. #crochet #beanstalk

Daughter was visiting us last week, so she was guest artist for the #chalkart on our front walk. She based this very loosely on a 1914 commercial illustration by Sugiura Hisui (1876-1965). #Sugiura #chalk

Adult daughter needed a new #Pokemon tote. I had some #Pikachu fabric from #buynothing and some denim scraps, batting scraps, etc., so I made one, to her specs. #sewing

Work in progress for Trashion Show in Long Beach this fall--a gown made from old decor and shirting samples, and other flotsam. I'm also working on a crown made from aluminum cans. Stay tuned. And if you're local, it's not too late to join in! #trashion #sewing

Chalk on our front walk right now is based on a detail from the "Taste" panel of the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries at the Musée de Cluny. It's brighter colors than the tapestry in Paris, but the sun will take care of that. #chalkart #tapestry #TheLadyandtheUnicorn #Cluny

Second quarter panel of my book quilt for 2026 is done, representing the twelve books I've read in April-May-June (I might read more before the month ends but a dozen makes a good square). I'm a beginner quilter and not a perfectionist; so the sewing here is far from precise, but I'm enjoying the project and learning as I go. Swipe to see the books and covers represented. #quilt #reading #books #bookblanket #readinglog The books represented: Jessamine Chan, The School for Good Mothers; Malinda Lo, Last Night at the Telegraph Club; Pip Williams, The Dictionary of Lost Words; Waubgeshig Rice, Moon of the Turning Leaves; Allen Eskens, The Quiet Librarian; Joseph Fink, Alice Isn't Dead; Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary; Jill Bolte Taylor, My Stroke of Insight; Sarah Perry, Enlightenment; Haruki Murakami, The City and Its Uncertain Walls; Jeanne Thornton, A/S/L; and Mona Awad, All's Well.

The #crochet #chalk #afghan on my front walk grew again; and faded a little, and took a little bit of light rain. But it's still there.

A long weekend is a good time to start a #crochet project... in #chalk ? Chalk granny squares #afghan on my front walk right now. I've been adding to it as time allows; might keep adding to it, but I like that it's square now. Like an actual afghan, it's great for using up little colorful leftover nubbins, and for catching up on audio books or podcasts. And I don't have to wash or store this one when it's done. :) #chalkart

Last week, our front walk #chalkart was for #Maythe4th; a time hop to visit a theatre in summer of 1977; had planned to do multiple "screens" but only did these two (so far, it's still out there if I get inspired). #starwars #chalk #maythe4thbewithyou

This year’s #bookblanket is a #quilt ; here's the first section, for the books I finished in the first quarter of the year. Slide to see the book covers themselves. Don’t look too closely at the piecing, I’m not a perfectionist and it really shows. ;) books in this array: Chris Whitaker, The Colors of the Dark; Helen Phillips, Hum; Seth Rogen, Yearbook; Kevin Wilson, Now is Not the Time to Panic; Yoko Tawada, The Emissary; Kirsten Miller, Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books; Karen Thompson Walker, The Dreamers; Angie Kim, Happiness Falls; Danzy Senna, Colored Television; Leah Franqui, Mother Land; Sophie Elmhirst, A Marriage at Sea; and Mona Awad, Bunny.

#chalkart on our walk today is a #bunny, based on a sweet #youtube #tutorial by Rachel Froud. #rabbit #chalk

Chalk on our walk last week was based on a Japanese utility cover in Shizuoka Prefecture, featuring Shizulla, a local mascot, in front of Mt. Fuji and tea fields, offering a friendly cup of green tea. #chalk #chalkart #JapaneseMascots #UtilityCovers #Shizuoka #Shimizu #Shizulla #greentea #mtfuji

My new crocheted banner for rallies--did the lettering while watching #Hamilton on TV last night (again); all the faces were made in December/January/February. #crochet #nokings

I had two #crochet pieces in the #FunaDay LA popup show in Long Beach yesterday. My Book Blanket 2025 was displayed on an inflated mattress with a photo guide to show the original book covers involved; and handing on the wall above it, my "Facing the New Year" panel of twelve faces in squares.

For St. David's Day, the #chalkart on our front walk is loosely based on the 1902 self-portrait of Welsh artist Gwen John, plus daffodils and a holiday greeting in Welsh. #StDavidsDay #GwenJohn #DyddgwylDewiHapus #randomactsofwelshness

My first little #quilt for 2026 is for young kin who requested "space and birds and purples and blues". So this is that! Fabrics include several thrifted men's shirts and pjs and a bedsheet, also scraps from other projects. #quilting
