Starting to see some people checking out #NetBSD due to its anti-LLM contribution policy. It's always great to see folks trying out OSes off-the-beaten-path!

But for those who want to go offroad and graphical, check out #Redox and #Haiku (#HaikuOS) too! Both of them also have anti-LLM policies as well:

Celebrated the 30th anniversary of @kde by having a watch party of the new documentary from CultRepo, alongside a couple Konqis!

#KDE has been one of the most welcoming FOSS communities I've ever been in so far, especially when attending events like #Akademy in-person. It has only gotten more relevant and necessary over the last couple years, especially given the state of the tech industry at-large. Knowing the history and the people behind it makes me want to get involved, even more than I already am!

"KDE is going full AI" [screenshot of some guy giving a talk no one liked]

"look, KDE won't even say they're not a nazi bar" [link to toots where they say they're not a nazi bar]

"KDE harbors nazis. they did ban the nazi, and the nazi wasn't involved with KDE in the first place, but still"

has everyone lost their goddamn minds. what is this even supposed to accomplish? you are effectively punishing a project for banning a nazi!

people seem to be mad at KDE because someone did a Poster's Tactic and it was not received well in a non-Posting environment??

and also from some earlier jumped-to conclusions i guess

man

struggling to convey to people that in some spaces it may be considered rude to paste a dozen racist tweets into a discussion thread about programming policy

Thanks to @tsdgeos for the amigurumi KDE dragons! Here they are along with the Konqi plushie, for comparison:

For people who'll be installing the next Fedora release, you'll be seeing this new 3rd-party repo page in Plasma Welcome with new Konqi artwork created by me!

Thanks to @siosm, Steve Cossette, and @Conan_Kudo on the Fedora side and Nate Graham on the KDE side for getting this through.

PNG and SVG versions are now on KDE Community Wiki, along with new base artwork of Konqi in a carrying pose:

Weirdly enough, Discord on Haiku with both web browsers works slightly better than Firefox on Linux in one aspect:

GIFs

Right now with Firefox 127.0.2 on Linux, GIFs go blank after showing their first frame. This doesn't occur on Haiku with WebPositive nor Falkon.

Did you know that there's an unofficial Discord community for Haiku?

Haiku Community Discord invite:
https://discord.gg/8KsjHbW

And yes, Discord does work fine on WebPositive and Falkon.

#haiku #haikuos #falkon #discord

On the bright side, my website does work fine. That makes it more ready for a future without IPv4 than Discord, Proton (the privacy-centric Swiss tech company), reddit, DuckDuckGo, and GitHub. Discord and GitHub hurt the most personally, but I am somewhat shocked that Proton hasn't done better on this front.

If you see this @protonprivacy, please improve your IPv6 readiness! There is a growing number of people who won't be able to use your ecosystem, until this is addressed.

Currently on an internet connection that's IPv6-only for the first time and wow a lot of websites and services just won't straight-up load at all. There is still plenty of work to be done before most people can fully get rid of IPv4. This sucks, genuinely.

Oh, and the ISP is SpaceX btw.

If there are any artists out there interested in contributing artwork to a desktop environment, the KDE VDG is looking for a drawing of Konqi in a third-party repo page for Welcome Centre:

Currently spending a rare 5-day weekend porting and packaging new and old stuff for Haiku. Expect a burst of activity within the next couple days. Starting with this post!

Dust Racing 2D is an open-source, top-down, racing game built on Qt that comes with a map editor.

A designer friend of mine was taught something called "The Rule of goatse", which is avoiding making designs that even vaguely resemble goatse. Was very recently reminded of this, since I just visited the GNOME Circle website and this is the first thing visible:

This event now makes C# the third non-C++ language (after Yab and Python) that can be used to create native Haiku apps with the BeAPI/Haiku API.

Somebody on the Haiku forums just managed to build a native graphical app using the BeAPI/Haiku API with C# and the unofficial .NET 8 port:

Damn Small Linux has returned:
https://www.damnsmalllinux.org/

DSL will now try to fit as many things as possible within 700 MB to keep older x86 machines usable, based on Debian distro antiX.
Among the new set of applications is BadWolf from @lanodan, a lightweight WebKit-based web browser.

Update:
Website was down, but has returned for now.

Back on @haiku again before the year ends. Falkon (and QtWebEngine) were recently updated with many fixes, with most of the constant crashes now gone. Now web browsing really is almost identical with mainstream OSes, DRM and GPU acceleration aside.

YT video playback is smooth even beyond 1080p (1440p in this case), Discord has no visible UI issues anymore, Office Online runs decently well within system limitations, and Instagram's working fine.

Just picked these websites as some of what a typical casual user would use often on any other desktop OS. Haiku's doing rather well in this regard.

(also watch @ActionRetro)

This is a 1080p version, mostly to stay within Mastodon limits on images. There is also another version with the full Haiku logo, however that won't be publicly released for now due to trademark.
