i am quite disappointed

(yes, i believe that the corporate surveillance casually doing mitm to any encrypted browser connection is a much bigger scandal.)

six intermediate CAs compromised! this is big!

mate, our company uses netskope, your employer most likely uses some equivalent.

the safety provided by SSL is pure gentlemen's agreement, and the gentlemen don't play fair for years, if ever

i bet the lobste dot rs slop peddlers would also find the famous incident of public shaming (“have you no decency”) that helped bring down joe mccarthy's career—downright toxic.

got my (free) covid vaccine today.

if you're in poland, here's the info about the vaccinations, in polish (the machine translation to english is good enough).

note that ukraine and russia had exactly the same starting point in the early 1990s, and yet ukrainians have an engaged civic society capable of bringing down governments they are severely displeased with.

so many of the problems with russia can be explained by it being repeatedly hit with the imperial boomerang since the afghan war, and still declining to fucking recognise russia's (and russians) own complicity in the shape of things.

(so forgive us here for not really caring about the plight of the russian people)

if only the german police wanted to investigate gerhard schröder as diligently

i feel that the quality of mild casual blasphemy is generally higher in catholic countries, but i'm open to being convinced otherwise

the day the companies pay the employees their due is commonly called in poland dzień matki boskiej pieniężnej, i.e the holiday of Our Lady of Salaries

simon willison – the psf board member and a shill for autoconfabulator companies – in a discussion on lobste dot rs decided that his promotional work is not odious enough and compared the autoconfabulator resource use to the resource use of actual humans, you know, just living.

good boy simon willison!

…you might think i'm too harsh about kde, but you need to take into account the timeline and the context; the introduction of the very lenient policy, the discussions and their tenor, then locking the discussion, then the very, very disingenuous – to the point of manipulation – nate graham's blog, including his multiple misrepresentations of the comments, then, ultimately, the “recommendation”, from the facto leader/community manager to drop the discussion about ethics unless it fully accommodates the feelings of the promoters of the confabulation machinery.

there needs to be a reason for assuming good faith, something we can call a “trust budget” ; if this trust budget is exhausted, the good faith assumption is not needed.

mind, i'm generally desktop-environment-agnostic; i can live with both gnome and kde, but i preferred the configurability of kde. in the last 25 years i generally switched between the most currently usable desktop environment.

now i'm half-convinced to switch back to gnome just because kde is making me feel like i'm not wanted there.

and that brought me a ban fron the @kde account, which is reportedly managed, inter alia, by nate graham.

so, folks, better do not talk about ethics in kde nate graham's hearing.

nate graham of the @kde fame thinks that bringing up ethical issues with the confabulation machinery should be generally avoided because it can make the fans of synthetic text extruders sad:

I have a recommendation for everyone: in the future, either don’t discuss the ethical dimensions of the topic, or do it only with an extraordinary amount of empathy for diversity of opinions and value judgments. Anything else is just gonna devolve into negativity and broken relationships.

i'm but a simple motherfucker, but to me this looks like nate graham wants to block any conversation about ethical impact of allowing use of the plagiarism generators.

as much as i dislike chomsky, i think that “manufacturing consent” is what nate graham is doing here, and that it is disgraceful.

how to behave in case of air attack alert, an official polish government's video guide

(you can look at kde right now and watch how the culture of politeness and consensus is being literally used to fabricate a consensus.

sadly, i don't think there's a simple good solution to handle this type of hackery.)

it's a sad thing that “nice” FLOSS projects are so much more susceptible to social engineering from the autoconfabulator pushers.

RE: https://circumstances.run/@mawhrin/117302336573323503

think i'm exaggerating? the money put into the the autoconfabulator investments goes into fucking multiple trillions (order of magnitude: 10¹²).

divide that by a million, and you get the order of magnitude of fucking millions.

and instead we're getting things of the quality of the whisper model, famously trained on subtitle databases, and the extremely costly pervert glasses, neither of which is actually targeted at or half-useful for disabled people.
