There's also an option for whether it should recommend AI-generated books to you.

One good option though: it has a filter to exclude books with AI-generated artwork.

The Libby app used for reading library books has a new feature — you can select whether you want to read books someone couldn't be bothered to write.

Right, I've got OpenBSD running acceptably on the ThinkPad. WiFi, sound, suspend and resume, trackpad, RAID.

Last two minor issues are xenodm ignoring X11 DPI, and the CPU scaling needing to be turned down a bit so the fans don't run all the time.

I wrote about the personal reasons why I'm particularly angry about genAI.

"Summarize the key takeaways from this saved post".

Prime Day is so commercialized now, it's like we've lost track of its true meaning.

Wikimedia signs a business deal with OpenAI to sell the content we built, and OpenAI attacks their web tools?

Ruby goes all in on genAI, and OpenAI inserts malware into RubyGems packages?

Linus invites AI use for kernel code, and kernel.org gets hammered by AI bots?

I'm going to need to stock up on strings for my tiny violin.

How did this story fail to do the rounds on Mastodon?

«If you’ve been wondering why “furry culture” became a topic on the Senate floor, you can thank Sen. Tommy Tuberville. […]

Tuberville claimed an “alarming” number of pilots, flight attendants and air traffic controllers are furries.»

Scientists are feeding bees with genetically modified bee gut bacteria, to make them resistant to organophosphates.

The moral of the story: change the bee you want to see in the world.

Someone wrote a utility to turn off the AI in macOS 27. (I haven't tried it because I'm sticking with 26 for now.)

Anyone have any recommendations for cheap mailing list hosting that isn't Google Groups? Basically, Google Groups but not from Google?

(Obviously I could set something up myself, but I'd rather not host my own email.)

Knowing 1-4 neighbors seems to be the most common situation, which makes sense to me. I've been in the 0 situation, currently we're at 11+.

Apparently in the US, you tend to know more neighbors the older you are. It would be interesting to know how it varies geographically.

AI can do incredible things. For example, it has made me feel good about being old enough to retire.

The “AI torture chamber” thing would be an amazing example of trolling, but I have an unpleasant feeling the developer might be serious.

Neologism I just saw: stemlord. The kind of person who thinks humanities subjects are trivial and unimportant.

“Is this a mallet which I see before me,
The handle toward my hand?
Utterly brilliant!
Come, let me clutch thee.
I have thee not, and yet I see thee still. Blaaah!”
