that rationale isn't necessarily wrong, per se, but it's also generally not as *exclusive* as long-term programmers, professional or otherwise, would assume

i think one of the issues that this can arise from is the way that programming is so oriented around logic and precision that it induces a kind of perfectionist streak by long-exposure where it naturally attracts minds which are very aligned with determining certainty. as a result the people who write a lot of code are also going to be people who are very certain that they wrote it the *correct* way and have very elaborate rationale for why.

i think a fundamental problem the software world has is that every developer thinks they've "solved" what the "correct" languages to use are with their "objective" metrics, usually piled up with academic terminology and professional terms to make it sound authoritative, when ultimately many criticisms actually boil down to personal preferences and what meshes best with an individual developer's mental modeling

Seems like a good day to remind people that blaming tools that have been maintained by underpaid devs or volunteers or with little to no support for decades - or worse, blaming those underpaid devs or volunteers - without assigning any responsibility or culpability whatsoever to the negligence of companies that have made millions or billions or hundreds of billions of dollars off the backs of those underpaid devs or volunteers' work is picking a side.

"tapas is shutting down but you can follow me on fanon!" well, they don't have rss feeds, so, no, no I can't, sorry, I am not going to read your comic anymore.

If you’re using today to promote your workalike clone of a php app written in a “safer” language it tells me you’re really not understanding just how shaky these various pieces of foundation-level technology truly are, bottom to top.

interrupting my wife from playing Disgaea 7 to go on autistic rants about deep sea isopods (a bunch of research came out recently showing that there's actually a whole bunch of different species and the assumption that their size difference is correlated to depth is actually incorrect - it appears that size is related to evolutionary differences between speceis)
