Count von Count has found your secret key

Golden Gate Sunset 17oct2026

The annual Golden Gate Sunset season started tonight, with the viewing point near the Ashby freeway exit. You can find each night's spot using my map: http://acme.com/jef/ggs/

Ukraine should treat Musk as an enemy combatant.

I returned to Twitter/X recently. I'm not going to post a multi-thousand word justification for it. The reason can easily fit into a toot: I wanted to download my tweet archive from before it became a Nazi bar. Now that I have the archive, there's no reason for me to ever visit there again.

Years ago I noticed how the times of day that right-wing trolls were active looked a lot like Moscow working hours. And also how occasionally when I replied to them in Russian, they replied back to me in Russian too. When I talked about this, I was called paranoid. Freely admitted; doesn't mean I was wrong.

@jwz I just ordered some floppy disks to refurb an old art piece and holy crap they are more than a dollar each these days! Anyway I should end up with some extras so if you still want floppies...

@alice Have you ever seen Now You See Me? It's a magic/heist movie and it ends (no spoiler) with a wonderful scene of the love locks at Pont des Arts in Paris. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1670345/

"He is quite literally one of the greatest political success stories the U.S. socialist left has ever produced. So how does its extremist flank celebrate that success? By calling him a genocidal Zionist." https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2026/10/8/800109366/news/far-left-eating-its-own-mamdani/

This quote intrigues me: "Altogether there were 13 Nike sites in the Bay Area (with one only recently disclosed by the military in the East Bay)." My own Nike history page, from 2001, lists 13 sites: https://acme.com/jef/nike/

I wonder what they meant about the recently disclosed site?

Some generalizations I've come to while eating all these sandwiches:
- Sandwich shops in government civic center areas: fast, average price, sometimes crappy
- Sandwich shops in financial districts: fast, expensive, usually very good
- Sandwich shops near high schools: average price, pretty good, HUGE
- Lone bodegas in residential areas: the owner is so happy to see you and wants to be your friend and makes you the best sandwich they can

If you ever wondered what an apocalyptic sex cult's lair looks like (the main cult, not the murder spinoff with the derelict boat), here is "Lighthaven" in Berkeley. Nice place. Used to be a B&B. I bike past it all the time. https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/sbf-berkeley-rose-garden-inn-19520351.php

After the Ukraine war is over, we should extend the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention to include autonomous anti-personnel drones.

(I'm debugging a new "On This Day" app for my tweet archive and ran across this. Not by me but stealing from Twitter is always morally correct.)

INTERVIEWER: Can you explain this gap in your resume?
ODYSSEUS: Ok it’s actually a really long story

Ow, my knee!

So apparently bluesky has an anthropomorphized Torment Nexus account, which is pretty much on-brand for there.

Omg I just ran into Mark Bodē.
