Well this is annoying. One of the mods I'm using in Rimworld apparently adds a random chance to kill for any health effect I've had colonists die of a successful bionic eye installation, the initial effect of tox gas, getting slightly drunk, an invisible health condition which does literally nothing and is just used for some logic, and the combat command aura. And I have no idea which mod is doing it, and it's rare enough that it's going to be a giant pain to try to track down. :/

Welp, I think I'm fuckin' done with safeway. The local store recently switched to e-ink price displays on the shelves, and I think I saw why, today. I went to grab cheapo microwave pizzas, and for the usual brand, they were all priced $2.99. Except the one variety which they only had three of in the freezer; it was marked up to $9.49. So, yeah, fuck that price gouging bullshit.

I randomly wrote a creation myth from a kobold perspective, inspired in part by Terry Pratchett. And since fedi apparently doesn't allow posting text files, I stuck it on https://mechanicalmischief.com/kobold%20creation%20myth.txt

Starting September 2026, Google will require every Android app developer to register centrally, provide government ID, and submit signing keys. Apps from unregistered developers will be blocked on all certified devices worldwide. This threatens F-Droid, open-source distribution, and user autonomy. @keepandroidopen #KeepAndroidOpen https://keepandroidopen.org

Sorry not sorry

I think I may have gotten decent at pushing coins. Or at least cheesing Raccoin's mechanics. >..> <..<

Well, that was a great reminder to turn on 2FA everywhere.
I woke up to an email saying that the email address on my apple account had been changed, and when I went to look into it, the account had been permanently locked due to spamming. This despite it having a unique, high-entropy password.
Fortunately, I only had the account because my phone company used to include an apple TV sub as part of my phone plan, so nothing was really lost.

@Loosf

I had a depressingly believable nightmare last night. In it, I'd been forced to install an LLM agent on my phone which controlled all of its functionality, due to my AuDHD diagnosis and a law claiming to help the mentally ill. So when I saw a runaway trailer hit three people, it wouldn't let me call 911; it said I was hallucinating, and replaced the call button with ads for pay-per-minute "mental health LLMs."

I was watching the Superbowl waiting for the Bad Dragon half time show but I feel like it wasn’t their usual work.

I assume DNS and bind is the new Netflix and chill?

What time is it? It's callout o'clock!

Today's minor victory: my workbench is now usable again, for the first time in like a year. There wasn't, like, anything damaged on it, I had just piled so much random crap up on and around it that I couldn't really do anything on it. Even half-assing organizing stuff, it took like two hours to clean up, but that's at least one blocker to several projects I've been putting off for months out of the way.

Well, I feel stupid, now. I just fixed an eleven year old bug in one of my scripts, where it would fail to clean up some session data.
Turns out that this was because I was walking the list of sessions checking whether each one was still valid and deleting it from the list if not. Without decrementing the counter on a deletion or anything, so if two sessions in a row were no longer valid, it would delete one, then skip right over the next, because its new index number had already been processed. >..< And what do you know, as soon as I switched it to walk the list in reverse, it worked perfectly.

There’s yet another “supply chain attack” so it’s a good time to remind you what the word means https://aria.dog/barks/forklift-certified-license/

Well, that was nearly a really bad start to a day. I fell asleep last night with half a glass of water sitting next to my laptop, and this morning, I went to pick it up, thinking, without the light on, that the cup was empty. With the cup weighing a lot more than I expected, it slipped out of my hand and splashed onto my laptop. Fortunately, it didn't actually damage anything, but it was a pretty close call!

Is it bad that the first thing which popped into my mind when I saw this was, "Wait, gender is getting rollback netcode, now?"

Well, that was annoying. Long haul bus broke so they had to get a new one, causing an hour long delay, and the replacement didn't have enough space for everyone's luggage. Then when we finally got all loaded and started going, some prick had double parked and blocked the bus in, so the driver had to go find and yell at them to move.

Well, I just got an email informing me that I have to migrate the NeosVR account I made a few years ago to Ethereum. Guess I won't be using Neos ever again. (Not that I actually planned to)
