Just imagine if Orange, Mitsubishi, All Nippon Airlines, the Port of Rotterdam, Dutch football association KNVB, the 5 largest Dutch political parties, the BBC, and the governments of UK, Finland, France, Japan, Czech, Belgium and NL each put between 100K and a million a year into paying people to maintain the free software they use. https://live.euronext.com/en/financial-news/factbox-governments-companies-take-websites-offline-over-php-flaws

I just had a scary trip to the local Tesco Express. People glowered at me, muttering "Happy now, PHP developer?". One woman shielded her kids, shrieking "Don't go near the nasty server-side man, kids". And when I got home, someone had posted a ColdFusion manual through my letter box with a message in cut-out newspaper text saying "learn to code, loser".

Vivaldi fetches certificate updates every few hours, and those certificates were blocklisted some days before the fault was publicly announced. As a result, it is not affected by the EMudhra failure. (If you want to be extra sure, you can also force a manual CRLSet update check in vivaldi:components.) And I’ve written to the regulators asking them to ban the number “4”, which has always struck me as the least trustworthy of the all-Harshad numbers.

I'm happy to report that Vivaldi is not affected by the EMudhra failure, like most Chromium-based browsers (and similarly with iOS). And I've written to the regulators asking them to ban the number "4", which has always struck me as the least trustworthy of the all-Harshad numbers.

"In 2022, security researcher Felix Krause showed that Instagram and Facebook’s in-app browsers injected JavaScript into the pages users visited" - what if links to web pages simply opened in your default browser, the one you installed because you trust it? Imagine being able to use the software *you choose* on a device you own. https://www.absolutegeeks.com/tech-news/whatsapp-is-building-an-in-app-browser-for-every-link-you-open/

The Media ‘Manufactured’ Millionaire Exodus From UK https://bylinetimes.com/2026/10/20/the-media-manufactured-millionaire-exodus-from-uk-campaigners-tell-ipso-in-open-letter/ "Since 2024, around the world about 30 news articles have been published every day about an exodus of millionaires and billionaires fleeing taxes. The UK, we’re told, has had the worst of it thanks to the Labour Government’s tax policies.

This coverage was almost entirely based on the claims of a single study, the Henley Private Wealth Migration report. The study has now finally admitted it does not have the data to back up its claims."

Mozilla Is Calling Out Microsoft for Forcing Edge on Users, and It's Absolutely Right https://uk.pcmag.com/migrated-3765-windows-10/167981/mozilla-is-calling-out-microsoft-for-forcing-edge-on-users-and-its-absolutely-right "European laws now force Microsoft to make Windows more respectful of user choices. … no one should have to fight their OS this hard on something as simple as a browser preference."

I solemnly swear that when web standards and opening the web makes me billions, I will not give a penny to horrible tyrants, or build a space rocket, or try to colonise Mars. (I will buy you a pint, though.)

Big Tech Is the Biggest Bankroller of Trump’s Ballroom https://dispatch.techoversight.org/email/0d285e42-f9f3-4c81-8b1e-39425d9dc9ce/?ref=top-federal-press-newsletter "Nvidia and Apple gave the most. Each committed $25 million, the largest amount on the list. Microsoft and Palantir committed $10 million each. Amazon, Meta, Cisco, and ServiceNow gave $5 million each. Another $22 million came from Google’s settlement of Trump’s lawsuit about his YouTube suspension."

W3C Draft Finding of the TAG: Installing Websites Must Be Easy. "We expect user agents to make installation an obvious affordance to users. Specifically, we expect the install option to clearly name the action, and to be easily reachable from the browser’s UI. An entry inside a menu with an unrelated label (such as Share), or several menu layers deep, does not meet this expectation." https://w3ctag.github.io/install-finding/

AI Company Lets Cops Pinpoint Specific Houses Based on a Single Interior Photo https://www.404media.co/ai-company-lets-cops-pinpoint-specific-houses-based-on-a-single-interior-photo/ "Raven, previously called GeoSpy, lets cops figure out what specific Airbnb or Zillow property a photo was taken in." Hurrah for the panopticon.

I see the inventor of gravy granules had the Nobel Prize for cookery bistoed upon him.

Finally, a CAPTCHA that doesn't require me to instantly know what American fire hydrants or school buses look like.

Just how much longer will UK and Europe kick the can down the road over digital sovereignty, after Comb-over Caligula ordered a ban on US entities making transactions with the International Criminal Court, because its former judge Navi Pillay was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize (and she didn't even drop a bomb on a girls' school). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj20vkkx3rdvo

Your valiant boy about to head into the European commission to meet a Big Tech Gatekeeper about the insane request by European commie users to run software they choose on devices they own.

If I don't keep my car roadworthy and crash into yours, it hasn't gone "rogue", it's my negligence and I'm responsible. If my dog attacks you, I am liable. There are no rogue AIs, just negligent AI companies. Prosecute them.

Brogrammers couldn't wrap their megabrains around not-a-real-language CSS, so decided to reinvent it and fight against the web platform for their own convenience. Who could possibly have predicted it would be crap for users and would need expensive surgery to lance the festering pus?
