I do not, actually, want LLMs to be feasible to run on ordinary hardware. I do not want this fascist technology to be more accessible. I want to abolish it.

I just had a job interview where I was asked about my LLM usage. They were relieved to hear I don't use them because they don't have to worry about security precautions for not leaking confidential information.

Discussing hypothetical "reasonable & ethical" LLM usage only feeds into slopaganda narratives and fundamentally misunderstands the problem. The only way some comparable technology might be "reasonable & ethical" is if the model was not Large, but then you're not talking about a Large Language Model.

Saying "nobody should be forced to use LLMs" is like saying "if you don't like tobacco, don't smoke it" on airplane where people are smoking tobacco.

Well I guess I'm not donating to Software Freedom Conservancy again.

Some people do not understand the concept of "no".

"How do we deal with the onslaught of slop?" wonders the guys who love slop generators.

Went to a doctor and was offered a flu shot (not what I came in for). I told them I'd rather do it another time and do it together with the COVID vaccine. They said they're no longer doing the COVID vaccine this year. 🙃 Fortunately the Chicago Department of Public Health still will be providing free COVID & flu vaccines this year.

Is Gentoo currently the only OS with an explicit anti-slop policy?

The inconsistencies with how browsers handle CSS with SVG <use> is maddening. I would think that I could use an inline <style> element in the SVG to use a CSS variable to style all elements of a class, but nope, that is handled very inconsistently by browsers. Every single element to be styled by CSS needs a style attribute on the element. Urgh. Well at least that does work in Firefox, Chromium, and GNOME Web.

So there's this little Rust library I contributed Linux support to back in January 2022. The original author handed over maintenance to me and another slop hater a while back. There's not a lot of activity on this, but yesterday someone tried to dump some slop on it. I politely told them to fuck off and they got all upset 😂 https://github.com/rust-dark-light/dark-light/pull/76

I made it the default font on my computer and I'm liking it.

If you're in a city in the US right now, fireworks release tons of particulates into the air. Keep windows closed; if you are outside, wear an N95 mask.

Today I left a wide open outdoor space because some guy came up reeking of gross artificial man smell. Shit's so strong that it's repulsive even from 20 feet away outdoors.

My neighbor is so gross that I sometimes get whiffs of whatever the fuck he sprays just by having my window open above him.

If I were King of the Universe, I would ban men from wearing smells.

I was considering learning Zig. Then I realized the scab who took my labor for free is the #2 all time contributor to Zig. https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/47680

Zine has added an explicit policy rejecting LLM contributions. As far as I know, it is currently the only static site generator that rejects slop code.
