Although the EFF does not mention operators of small websites such as this one, I imagine they would also like to hear from you if you feel the need to shut down your site or geoblock those states as a result of these laws.
The #EFF is calling for everyone in #Florida and #Georgia to begin documenting the harms you suffer as a result of #censorship laws in those states, and write to the EFF about your experiences.
That includes if you choose to drop out rather than comply with #ageVerification demands.
Now that the 11th Circuit has failed to uphold the First Amendment, the EFF's next plan is to use your experiences to pressure lawmakers to reverse course.

So, if you don't want your private affairs sprayed all over every shady criminal forum in the world, while *you* get branded a criminal and jailed for writing the necessary software to defend yourself and your corresondents, then click that link above and take action now, while you still have a chance.
Godspeed.
To be clear: after this, everything you say in your private chats will end up on the dark web. Every single character of it.
Why? Because law enforcement and their contractors will not keep your correspondence secure, and we've got the long history of data breaches to prove it.
The ONLY way to keep your private correspondence out of criminal hands is for it to be securely encrypted such that only your correspondent, and absolutely no third party whatsoever, can read it.
More bad news from #Canada: bill C-22, the colorfully named “Lawful Access Act”, more-or-less makes government malware mandatory and more-or-less makes #encryption #security illegal, putting innocent Canadians in danger of theft and violence at the hands of criminals.
This bill has passed the House of Commons and is now before the Senate.
See the EFF article for more, including what you can do if you're a Canadian citizen: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/10/canadians-are-running-out-time-oppose-dangerous-c-22-surveillance-bill
electric outlet, but instead of prongs sticking out of the plug, the prongs stick out of the outlet
I notice that pictures involving #eyeContact are fairly often #CW'd on the #Fediverse. Why is that? I take it some people have a sensitivity to eye contact? I want to know more!
/me looks wistfully at everyone installing NetBSD etc
I wish I hadn't been in crisis mode this whole year… All the time and energy I would've otherwise had, with which to explore other operating systems, have been sucked right out of me, and there's no end in sight.
I'm starting to understand why so many people feel stuck on Windows…
The existence of QIC-80 implies the existence of SLO-40.
#Compilers were inferior to hand-written assembly for a long time, by the way, and they were indeed forbidden or restricted in many projects.
They were invented in the early 1950s, and it took *four decades* before they were good enough that most projects no longer restricted the use of #compilers.
So uh #Linus, you might wanna remember your history here. There is *ample* precedent for projects banning the use of certain tools.
#Linus #Torvalds: “I don't understand this whole idiotic concept of "don't use AI for X". Here's a new rule just for you: don't use compilers for any of your kernel submissions.”
Last time I checked, compilers didn't randomly hallucinate. Or have any randomness in their behavior at all, for that matter.
Nor did people bafflingly praise compilers for doing things that pre-existing tools already did perfectly well (e.g. finding call sites). Compilers did something new.
What does the anti #AI crowd on Fedi think about #Rust? What will become of it?
Because like, out of all of the software that could potentially become unusable due to low-quality code, #programming languages are some of the hardest to replace, once you're committed to using one.
So, if I start a new project, what should I do?
Comment below if you think there's something else I should use instead (with good type system, build tooling, safety, zero-cost abstractions, etc).
My true feelings on the topic of this email conversation involve a great many expletives. I assure you, my restraint has been exemplary.
LWN: “[Linus Torvalds] took an old patch and had the LLM revise it; the result has made him unwilling to work *without* an LLM. … Why bother, he asked, to search for all of the call sites of a function he has just modified, when the tool can fix them all automatically?”
Sounds like a language issue. I certainly don't need an #LLM to refactor #Java code.
The introduction of mirrorless digital cameras has had the side benefit of greatly improving humanity's anti-vampire surveillance capabilities.
All those billions invested in AI, which according to everyone is really good at finding code with security implications, and yet Microsoft still can't keep the malware out of npm.
The author of #curl is straight-up tooting Anthropic advertisements now.
