4yo is getting into #conlang ! He is obssessed with letters and different alphabets, particularly the greek alphabet but now he is inventing his own. The latest is the 'Oxalob' alphabet with a whopping 67 letters!

Sometimes a calm amd peaceful view is what you need

First day on higher Ozempic dose and flu jab today, I feel like a pincushion and am anticipating tomorrow being side-effect hell

If my union spent half as much time campaigning as they do trying to sell me financial products and private healthcare, we'd have a 2 day week by now

Hey Faun, psst, stop arguing about religion online again, this never goes well

@switch You have no idea the wave of revulsion and then relief that surged through me seeing "Claude favourited" my llm complaint post 😅

Obviously, marketing has always been 99% rubbish but at least you occasionally got a nice turn of phrase or something in an advert or bumf or w/e, now literally everything sounds the same: like it was written by the world's most self-satisfied teenager.

Email from my bank that is clearly written by an LLM. I already hate when businesses tell me how to feel about their decisions (not least because they only ever do it when they are wrong.) but that second paragraph with the 'That matters' and 'And I couldn't agree more.' just makes me feel physically sick.

Interlopers commenting on euthanasia for disabled people will get blocked. Even if it was legal here, there is absolutely no time when it would be ethical for a healthcare worker to bring it up.

Something I struggle with a lot is with patients who want to die because of their new disabilities. I have had suicidal ideation and what has got me back usually is focussing on the future. Which is very difficult for these people. And my brain wants to present logical reasons why suicide isn't the answer but often all I can do is agree, that life sucks enormously and likely isn't going to get measurably better (I'm specifically talking about patients who are making no progress with rehab, when people are making progress, focusing on the future usually helps).

Does anyone have advice on what has helped them overcome suicidal feelings after becoming disabled?

Is there a quick way to check if I have any followers on an instance before I block it?

Anyone had experience with SEN funding for their kid at school and how to get transparency from the school about what it is actually being used for? UK only please.

4yo has 'transition funding' to help with him starting school but we're really struggling to see any evidence of anything its actually being used for to help him and are worried it hasn't been ring fenced and has just been swallowed up in general funds for the school.

Boosts appreciated

Communication disorders like Dysarthria and Dysphasia (neurological deficits leading a range of language problems such as not being able to produce the right words or understand words correctly or stuttering, despite internal cognitive logic being intact) are so common in brain injury and yet I have colleagues I know have worked in the sector for a decade or more, but still write people who can't speak fluently off as being either unintelligent or lacking capacity to make decisions (and tacitly needing us to control everything they do.) It's infuriating to me, I can't imagine how infantilising and humiliating it is to my patients

If you ride an e-scooter on the pavement, I hate you and I am dangerously close to the point of starting to push people off them when they ride past me.

The Greens used to be known as 'Tories on Bikes' because they were still pretty centre-right on most issues just with a big environmental concern.
Seems like that element hasn't been completely washed out in the new shift to the left among the public face.

4yo recognises that 'Thank You' is often followed by 'You're Welcome' so now he just says 'I'm welcome!' when he means Thank You 😅

The truth of everything from transvestigating to ai witchhunts is that people would rather have a reason to be in a big group punishing a person so they can feel bigger than actually finding the truth about anything.

And if that's you, fucking cut it out, it's a disservice to the higher functions of your brain.

Been reading about the asian story-structure kishōtenketsu but I still don't really get it. Does anyone have any recommendations for stories (preferably short stories, but novels are ok) that use the structure. Must be readable in english, as I'm monolingual, either translated or originally in english is fine.

I know about the 4-panel manga thing, that's not what I'm looking for, I don't understand how it scales up to a bigger format.

Thank you!

Saw a dead fox lying on the pavement on my walk today. It didn't look like it had been run over but I expect that's what happened, though it was right over by the wall of someone's garden.

I hope it wasn't poisoned though I could see that happening too. It was obviously not a full grown adult. Felt a bit sad for some indeterminate reasons when I saw it.

Sorry to keep asking but I could really do with a bit more money to get through to payday on the 28th. I'm at £10 of my £50 goal to be able to eat properly for the rest of the week. I'll update as I recieve further help.

I know times are tight but I could really use a hand, thank you!
