@Blort @sheogorath Here's an idea; can't I just extend Mastodon to be able to support long form video, and then bring the peertube idea into Mastodon and create a hybrid of the two? #peertube #mastodon #selfhosting #hybrid
I'm thinking of expanding Skyhaven out into the PeerTube, doing videos. But I'm thinking, can PeerTube ever compete with Youtube? The most exciting, compelling content; why wouldn't you just stick it on Youtube? You might make some money. Sure, PeerTube has no ads, but you wouldn't make any money and the audience is a fraction of that on Youtube. Perhaps why I'm looking at PeerTube and finding a lack of compelling video there at the moment.
I'd like to do a super modern interface like I have done for my Mastodon instance, and I have some plans for using a CDN to super boost my ability to stream video to large audiences but I'm not sure the general public is that bought into the whole thing
So yeah I went for my first walking errand since surgery today.
What is it with everyone writing their book right now? Confirmed so far in the last month:
and just a couple months ago I got the Sam Neill autobiography, which I'm nowhere near finishing (only started really). I'd love to own all of these because I really like those people, but I just don't have the time to read them all

I don't know if there's a thing I can confess that makes me sound more like an ascetic old person than "I made my oatmeal with maple syrup instead of brown sugar this morning, as a little treat, and it made me feel joyfully alive."
But man, fuck the haters, maple's expensive as shit these days.
Obviously I *could* just move the logic in-house to Moonshine, and make HTTP requests to the Mastodon API directly with Python HTTP client code. This would selfishly make a lot of the things I care about easier, and might offer some optimization opportunities. But I'd prefer, if possible, to help contribute to my upstream as a commons resource, which has a much wider audience than just my own project!
I got the new Michael Douglas autobiography, One Helluva Ride. He promises to go into depth on a whole lot of stuff, so it should be good. There’s all sorts of reasons people might read his book but for me, I’d like to hear more about his time making Wall Street and Falling Down - two awesome movies. I really love the fast food scene in falling down. I think he’s speaking for us all when he says, I just want to order a little breakfast #michaeldouglas #autobiography #onehelluvaride #book #reading #movies #wallstreet #fallingdown
Alright, back to the cognitive regularly scheduled programming. I'm feeling pretty decent despite having a lot of recovery ahead of me. Very real chance I get back to programming again soon - I can't record any music because my throat is wrecked from the breathing tube, but while I was waiting with no phone or clock to get taken back and blown up like a balloon, I will say - I kept busy by thinking over stack VM stuff, and I think what I want to use it for is customization points in the parser and exec/eval, that type of thing. That's a nice constrained scope where most of the machine can be a crazy fast bytecode interpreter expressed in high-level operations.
It's worth noting that they are similar enough that, if I'd been listening to Explorers at that age instead, I might be making this post in the exact opposite direction, grateful to find No Alarms And No Surprises. Like almost certainly. Especially since I felt like a criminal wasting other people's food and water at that age, and just more deserving to die the longer I put it off.
If you find yourself feeling like that BTW, this is your gentle caution that these feelings are always a mirage, even if they always feel rational and backed by evidence at the time. You are not a useless eater. Larry Ellison is, but you, you're good, fam.
It's book season apparently. Michael Douglas has his coming out; One Helluva Ride. And Christopher Lloyd ('Emmet doc Brown') has his book coming out, called In My Own Time.
I think Douglas' book will be really good. He's led an exciting life, but I saw him in one of those An Audience With evenings in London some years ago. He seems like a really decent guy. Christopher Lloyd - he never stopped being a nice guy. His book will be full of heart. I'm sort of thinking I might buy them both.
Buy, but read? I'd love to but I'm on like chapter 1 of Sam Neill's book. I really like Sam Neill. He is the dictionary definition of a decent bloke. I need to reformat my time so I just like, set aside an hour a day to read.

There's a friend I owed it to, to listen to more Muse, and it's been kind of a discovery process! Like, when I think of this band, the stereotypical style in my head bounces between a few other examples I can point to on The 2nd Law, a bit of Explorers and a bit of Liquid State. But there are a few songs on here where it really feels like, "damn dude you wanna be Freddie Mercury so bad, I had no idea. Can't complain, you wear it well." But it's very Queen. Panic Station is one of those songs.
Truth be told, the whole album is about uncertainty about the future, and particularly the drive to see it pessimistically, maybe even misanthropically. Which is not unfair, but not a good way to look at the world with love, feeling why it's worth protecting.
I'm going to really miss my morning walks. But when I'm recovered and back on my feet, it will be nice to be able to do them again, with more energy! And other, more demanding exercise too. And not always struggling to work my way up to competence. After awhile, you get very tired of being tired. I'll miss some of the turning of the leaves, but not all.
The trash can here really reminds me of the robot from A Grand Day Out, with the color and beat-up aesthetic.
I did see one of the #WalkBunnies! It's hiding in the third picture, but you can see its ears.
Ancient scriptures describe a small country that nevertheless had many embassies across the wider continent, and which supported itself on exports of ground beef sandwiches. It was technically a form of government known as a monarchy, but their high priest - known for his pointed metal hat - was a benevolent man, and insisted on a form of individualist democracy for all citizens of Ber-Gerking.
I'm not saying I want to assasinate Lennart Poettering. In fact I'm positively expressing that I do not.
However. I have just been learning about resolved in order to help my wife troubleshoot some issues on Arch Linux. And what I will say is: I understand completely how people get radicalized to want to shoot this man in the face.
God am I looking forward to never doing serious system administration on Linux again. It is a good time to be trying the BSDs and the Haikus and the 9fronts.
