Oh and WOW the UPS just saved the print job from fucking up! We just turned on an a/c and it tripped the ancient breaker on the consumer unit. 3D print continued as if nothing had happened. Yay.
Well I tried hard not to be happy with that.

Unexpected consequence of the AI era*: Various tools with network calls that normally would run so quickly there is no need for a progress bar or status indicator now hang for minutes at a time trying to reach network with no sign of whether the tool has locked up
* Here "AI" means "various commercial entities are performing a DDOS on every website, but there are no legal consequences, because if you call something 'AI' it becomes legal, like doing it through a hole in a sheet"

Misread this as "wandering phantom of the Midlands" (like a ghost with a Brummie accent 😀 )
It's ok to get some rest sometimes.
It's ok to ask for help.
It's ok to not have all the answers.
It's ok to disappear into a mysterious fog and become a wandering phantom of the wildlands.
@kevinrns @alexadeswift @menelion Some "political views" should not be tolerated, simple as that

I wonder how much damage they allow before taking action if at all
It doesn't matter if it's "personal" or not, if it did we wheren't quoting this right now
Let me repeat it again..
It's called "STANDARDS", you really let one a-hole destroy the company?
@inthehands Great thread! Another thing that happens is that some jobs, for legal reasons, are required to be advertised even if you have already identified the person you want to hire, and so there’s a game of writing a job description that fits this person and no other. I hate both sides of the hiring process
@inthehands Also – even in the time before llms, a solid idk 20% of job postings were either zombies, resume bait, or pro forma because a candidate was already chosen. It’s even worse now with all the scams and with employers thinking they hold all the cards.
When you apply and are summarily rejected, or are ghosted – do NOT take it personally. There’s literally nothing you could have done differently to get a better outcome.

Turns out that tobacco multinational Philip Morris organised AI-written responses to the EC consultation on stricter rules for selling vapes. Over 70% of the Dutch responses were fully written by AI. https://nos.nl/l/2620686
Ford rehires "greybeard" engineers after its push for AI automation backfires.

I have actually worked for @mullvadnet a couple of times, translating their book about why data privacy is so important and why Chat Control is an absolutely terrible idea. The people I worked with were lovely. But they weren't the CEO, who, presumably, would have thrown up his hands at the thought of paying me, an immigrant to Sweden. (Or is it only brown people who aren't allowed to pollute Swedish soil?)
Either way, I'm sorry for the non-racist people working there, who will presumably now be looking for new jobs in the not too distant future.
The thing with being an alternative tech company is that you have to keep your politics at the very least *not* out and out fascist. I guess that bloke is about to find that out the hard way.
