Review: Detective Aunty by Uzma Jalaluddin

> I really enjoyed my time reading Detective Aunty. It was a quick easy read and a fun mystery with a colourful cast of characters that kept me invested in its world all the way through. I really resonated with a lot of the representation of South Asian culture and I very much want more stories like these set in Toronto.

I'm listening to the album atm and honestly the bassoon parts sound pretty damn good

I have a disdain for anything true crime and true crime adjacent

this may be a hot take but - I find the Maomao x Jinshi romance dynamic very boring personally

like sure, I like Jinshi as a character and there isn't particularly offensive to me about the pairing but also it just feels a bit by the numbers to me in a way I'm not into

a sapphic Maomao romance pairing would be much much more interesting to me, hell a toxic yuri dynamic between Maomao and one of the ladies-in-waiting or concubines would be good, I would eat that shit up

the whole Shisui x Maomao arc really hit me hard tbh, like the whole doomed yuri aspect of it, you can see coming because the show very obviously favours the Maomao x Jinshi romance so y'know the yuri dynamic isn't gonna last

but I loved her character so much and Shisui and Maomao were so cute together 🥺

it was all so tragic

I also find lexi's insights into fandom culture interesting, the whole multi-shipping thing, ship wars and all that stuff

as someone who just doesn't interact with fandom culture like that and never has I just find that world fascinating
