I received a response from support@mullvadvpn.net & it's bad. To ignore intolerance is not how you demonstrate tolerance. Allowing hatefulness into your space is not how you promote an intellectually open environment.

Daniel's donation to a political party may not represent your values, but when that party is one advocating for things like "remigration", your silence on the issue absolutely does show where your values are.

Downplaying my decision as "philosophy" is just plain rude. I live in the USA, where fascism is running rampant. I know very well what fascists do to innocent people. I do not want to support a company that is pouring money into fueling fascism in another country. I don't want more people to have to be afraid to go outside.

I can't get a refund because it has been more than the fourteen days allowed by the refund policy, but anyone within that time should absolutely fill out a refund request now.

The goose thing isn't funny. It's annoying randomly generated garbage like what has ruined most of the high visibility portion of the web.

Techbros have created a world where I can only use two or three very strictly guarded furry social networking services & still have to mute the word for a mundane animal & give up ever seeing a furry with that animal as their fursona.

Why are American shopping malls so shit now? They're always 96% overpriced clothing, 3% food, & 1% sports. Why are they so unbalanced? Are malls in other countries like this too? They never even have GameStop or Yankee Candle stores anymore either. You can't go to a mall & buy electrical appliances anymore.

There was another one about a magic switch soldered into a computer. One end was soldered to the motherboard & one to the case. Flipping the switch would instantly crash the computer, but not harm it at all. It just wouldn't boot until the switch was reset. It shouldn't have crashed because it was connected to ground on the case & on the motherboard, but it did anyway because it was magic. No one knows who the wizard who installed the magic switch is. The magic switch was removed eventually.

A while ago I read some files out of a university's folklore directory & one of them was about how either the students or the IT department had written an audiolizer for their email server that would play various forest sounds & give them a good idea of how the server was doing. It would rain whenever there was high activity & storm whenever the activity was so high it was causing problems. I'm looking for it again but I can't find it. I think it must not be indexed in search engines, or it's too difficult to separate from similarly named subjects. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

I just went into a Best Buy & it was depressing. 1,000 chatgpt computers, 3 refrigerators, a YubiKey display, & no DVD drives. They had paper cards on display in place of computer parts & an entire bay dedicated to cryptocurrency toys. There are no fun electronics stores anymore.

Should I switch from having a different SSH key on all of my computers to just using a single password encrypted SSH key?

I'm not worried about any of my computers being broken into, except for my phone, but I don't think I should have to worry much about it giving access to the rest of my computers if the SSH key is encrypted.

This would enable having a consistent key & identity between my devices for whatever services I use the key for, but it also feels like a bad idea. My problem is key management, because I have five computers that each have their own key, so the work is multiplied every time I need to add or remove a computer. I don't think I can just use a hardware key because I don't think Android has any support for that kind of thing. A hardware key is also easy to lose.

Another mutual aid scam bot registered to an unmoderated server spamming absolutely everyone. Wonderful. At least there are fewer of these on fediverse than anywhere else I've seen.

Gentoo setup was absolutely terrible. The documentation is decent & has all of the information, but it's not well ordered for use as a step by step guide for someone that just wants to get started. It is definitely a handbook. Now I have SDDM starting on boot with KWin so it can launch Plasma when I log in. Now I should be able to transplant everything from Fedora & maybe get started on configuring Niri with Quickshell or EWWII or something as a another user, at least if I can decide on if I should learn Qt or GTK.

I miss dnf. apk in Chimera was better in some ways, but it was mostly an inconvenience. emerge is ridiculously slow even for precompiled binaries.

Both files are the exact same size, so no information was added in the middle by tar. It has to be that it got a few bits wrong somehow.

Normally I would use tar -W to avoid this situation entirely, but you can't verify multivolume archives like this! You have to extract them after & do it manually!

Also, these are cheap flash drives that die after a few write cycles. I can't afford nicer ones or a bigger one that would allow me to send a single volume archive. So I can't keep rewriting until tar gets it right!
