Tener un huerto es un sueño común, pero pasar de la vida urbana a entenderse con la tierra no es tan fácil. Pero cuidado! no busco desincentivarte, sino ahorrarte frustraciones.

1. Empieza en pequeño: un par de macetas bien gestionadas dan mas satisfacción y generan menos estrés que un huerto enorme abandonado por falta de tiempo. La escala debe adaptarse a tu vida, no al revés.

2. El sustrato es la base: Crea tu propio compost. Unos buenos cimientos determinan el éxito de toda la cosecha.

3. Antes de comprar semillas, observa tu espacio.:¿Cuántas horas de sol directo recibe? Los tomates, pimientos y similares exigen mínimo 6-8 horas. Si tu zona es sombría por edificios o orientación norte, opta por cultivos de hoja (lechugas, espinacas) o aromáticas.

4. Gestión del agua En verano, una maceta al sol se seca en menos de 24 horas. Sé honeste con tu rutina: ¿puedes regar a diario? Si dudas, instala riego por goteo automatizado o usa macetas con reserva de agua. Es mejor una pequeña inversión inicial en automatización que perder las planticas por una semana de trabajo intenso o unas vacaciones.

5. Victorias rápidas: Para evitar la desilusión, empieza con cultivos infalibles: lechugas , rábanos, o aromáticas como menta y albahaca. Deja los proyectos complejos para cuando tengas experiencia. El objetivo de los primeros años no debería ser la autosuficiencia total, sino reconectar con el ciclo natural y disfrutar del sabor de lo cultivado por ti.

Cultivar en la ciudad es un acto de resistencia y paciencia. Habrá plagas y hojas amarillas claro, pero también la satisfacción de comer lo que has cultivado con tus propias manos.

A lot of people acting like Trump is a uniquely American problem because of some integral flaw in the character of Americans. Folks sure aren't looking too close to their own right wings, which is how America got where it is now.

There is a general rise in stupid awful fascism around the world, and slagging off Americans as particular idiots isn't going to help you get ready to fight your own fascists. Especially when you realize they might be your neighbors or your kids.
