A Very Cool Thing: This #astrolabe is from Seville, made in 1224 AD (Oxford, HSM inv. 50934). On the "throne", at the top of the instrument (usually in astrolabes from the Islamic world), note the #geometry diagram: it shows the method for drawing the perpendicular bisector to a segment (with a fixed compass), used here to draw the astrolabe's meridian line.
The maker engraved it like an emblem, offering us a glimpse into their process…

Detail of a Brian Chippendale silkscreened poster from 2002. This was from the "secret Lightning Bolt shows" era, when they were still trying to play tiny underground spaces, but were attracting too big an audience. So the poster listed the band as "Laser Beast" and only hinted at the location, to reduce turnout. This poster is the reason their web site is laserbeast.com instead of something lightning-bolt.???-ish.
