I've been really enjoying the game Citizen Sleeper. Something about stories about people refusing to do what they were made to do really gets to me. And also all the descriptions of food are delicious. And all the food is mushrooms

Went to doctor and they said the vertigo was likely BPPV (the ear crystal thing), gave me the excersises to do, and vertigo is feeling better already. Also got blood test done just in case

I had a dream in April.

The sky was dreary and grey, and there was a thick fog that blanketed everything. It was going to rain in a few days and everyone knew that the rain would wash everything away.

Many people just gave up, everyone important anyway. They spent their time busy drinking and yelling about inconveniences and sitting around waiting for rain.

But even though they had given up, final letters still needed delivering, laundry still needed doing, fairy lights still had to be put up, and people still wanted their last photos taken. And so the rest of us, left with that burden, became the End Days Workers.

Cycling through the streets to deliver letters took on a odd magical quality, the fairy lights crisscrossing from powerline to powerline shining through the dense fog. I would see other Workers taking someone's photo or up on a ladder putting up lights, and share a wave as I passed.

And the beauty of those days made the people who gave up all the more frustrating, because the real reason the world was ending was themselves, because they couldn't hope for something better. And all the while we had to help them do it, because no one else was going to.

Days ticked slowly by, and on the last day, I was in an argument. Crying, with tears running down my face, I asked if it was my fault that they couldn't be happy, to tell me what's wrong, begging them for anything. It just didn't make sense that it had to end like this. Then I realised didn't want to have the dream anymore, and I woke up.

The vertigo I've been having recently (past week) is getting worse. I had been on trains for many hours so I thought it was just residual train legs, and then I thought maybe anxiety, but its definately Something, which sucks. I did a Covid test, which was negative, hopefully its some kind of random ear infection or wierd metal insufficiency. At least I can rule out heart attack :flipdog:

I've done some stuff with my cpu rendered block-game engine/game thingie since last I posted about it. Basically I was able to double the render distance that it can do for the same framerate, which is cool

Need to add particles/floating sprites again, and then I can get started making mechanics work :blobcatsweats: #gamedev

Curious what alternatives to spreadsheets do people use/know about?

This is mostly from the perspective of making some kind of alternative myself, so would also be interested in knowing what spreadsheet annoyances people have. But would love to use something that already exists.

By "alternatives to spreadsheets", I mean like any way of quickly (or slowly) making custom visualisations or summaries of existing data, especially if the data and visualisation are kept separate. Also any other interpretation is fine, because I get that spreadsheets are more like a general medium than a specific tool.

I had a pretty visceral and confronting realisation recently, that I've been afraid for most of my life, and that I've let that fear control me. It's okay to be scared, but when you forget to listen to your heart and your values and the people around you, that fear will hurt others and it will hurt yourself. You have weakness, but you also have strength, and every small thing you do matters. We all need each other, now more than ever, so please never loose sight of what you care about, and don't ever let yourself give up completely.
