The second thing that happened (yeah, I’m going out of order) was that I went to a pottery class and couldn’t make the clay do what I wanted. Hours later, I realize that—duh—you can’t make the clay go back in from a larger radius to a smaller because you’ve no practical way to channel the excess clay of the circumference. Which I wouldn’t have had to discover if I’d followed the instruction more carefully and extruded to the height I wanted at the initial radius before widening the bowl.
This is what I eventually decided to have fitted and glazed. No idea what the fuck it is.

Thoughts on learning and instruction:
Apparently, my learning style is FAFO when the topic is a thing that you can actually *do*. This seems extremely obvious in hindsight and probably a thing I’ve noted before, but two things happened this weekend to bring it to the fore (again?).

What the hell?
Can someone tell me why `pkgconfig(udev)` is provided by `systemd`? There's no `udev.pc` anywhere.
`systemd-devel` provides `pkgconfig(libudev)` and `%{_libdir}/pkgconfig/libudev.pc` (what I want/need).

I've printed my ASCII art properly for the first time! My friend helped me to get the colours and the quality absolutely perfect. Really happy with the results!

I wanted to maintain the feeling of the original super-long ASCII-scrolls, so I made several prints at 21x200 cm. I also printed one with a more traditional ratio, using 600x160 text characters.

I showed these works together with Karin Iréne Andersson's patchworks, and they worked really well together. Text & textile, always united.

It was particularly jarring because here, in the Expanse universe that the authors have created (at least at this point in the story), the expansion of the frontier to new worlds is actually not displacing indigenous sentients. They’ve created a bloodless frontier and then erased the horrors of terrestrial frontiers! Why? One could easily instead note the horrors of the past and paint a rosy idea of the future as imagined at this point in the story of expansion into unoccupied territories.

“Centuries before, Europeans had invaded the plague-emptied shell of the Americas”? Is this atrocious historical revisionism in Cibola Burn supposed to reflect the colonial mindset of the character or is this something the authors think?

With all of the snake oil and tech life hacks, one thing I’m surprised not to see is plug-in capacitors or maybe in-line plug caps to compensate for inductive loads like fans.
Power companies charge based on apparent power, which is going to be more than real power and most stuff in a residence is neutral or inductive—so adding capacitors should lower your apparent power and electricity bill, yeah?
Someone tell me I’m an idiot.

$EMPLOYER has a deep bench of engineering team leads that don’t want to do due diligence on their dependencies, or update them, or do any AppSec on their own code. We’re tasked with helping them do those things whether they really want to do them or not. In their minds, that makes us their sworn enemies.
This guy was one of them and he took over after our amazing manager retired and I guess he thought that he could use it as an opportunity to de-fang the group.
