I may have posted this link a couple months ago, but it's worth repeating...

"Smaller populations with lower consumption create better outcomes for both people and the planet,"
"warming ocean waters may be limiting nutrient availability across much of the global ocean. The researchers report that this nutrient stress affects microscopic marine organisms and could influence marine ecosystems over time"
(my personal opinion: we will kill most phytoplankton, leading to anoxia, then loss of ozone layer in ~5000 years...)
We pull ourselves up by progressively wider umwelt bootstraps. Or in simple hippy talk: we grow first by expanding our awareness. Of course it's more our modes of awareness that increase, rather than our sensitivity.
I'm thinking "Modes of Awareness"" would be an excellent essay: I must have fodder in the slushpile for this.
Question for astronomers on the Fediverse: when Betelgeuse goes supernova, will it be interesting to look at through my 13" telescope? How large will its visible debris envelope appear (say, compared to the size of a full moon)?

2/2 Think tanks should focus more on survival policy guidance and planning. So humanity doesn't go extinct we need:
1. Replacing GDP with a better metric.
2. Less fragile technology.
3. Scenario planning to handle a population crash to a sustainable level.
4. Better post-crash strategic spatial planning.
5. Sustainable agriculture.
6. Attitudes and ongoing education that incorporate natural custodianship.
7. More grassroots organizing to establish green political leadership worldwide.

1/2 Current research suggests Earth's sustainable population is around 3 billion, living with Swiss-like efficiency. Over-consumption in large countries and future pollution from high-population poor countries must be reduced. The challenge lies in achieving this while managing climate collapse and its side effects. A gap exists in discourse on handling declining populations within degrowth organizations.
"If you are waiting for the federal government to help, lower those expectations. Leominster joins a growing roster of municipalities that FEMA has denied aid to as it copes with natural disasters that are increasing in frequency, strength and costs"

Only matters of the soul matter. Explication of the soul derives from being, not from doing.
