Brin and I don't appear to be friends any more. We spent most of last spring and summer up on the allotment together but when I've met him again this spring he is actively ignoring me.
Either he's fed up that he hasn't had any treats or has got the hump because I haven't been around over the winter to keep him company.

These days I struggle with humans, not because I don't understand them, more because I kind of do; I fail to make human friendships because I don't care to make much effort for many of the people I find myself surrounded by, precisely because they don't make that effort.
I find it enlightening that I find more connection elsewhere. I think those that make the effort to understand others are valuable regardless of what species they are.
So I'm a fifty-odd bloke who has ended up as a cat-lady! 😎

I was always a dog person, so getting to know Hendrix I decided to study his behaviour and look stuff up to try and understand cats.
Little did I realise that he was doing something similar (minus the internet ofc) and adapting his behaviour to fit around mine, just as I adapted mine to fit around his.
As such, we seem to have reached a tacit understanding. As we patrol his territory together I can almost physically feel the bond we have developed as it moves and shifts.

I've known my pal Hendrix for around five years now. His behaviour has changed over the years. He used to leap off his bin as soon as he saw me, but now he sits and waits until I click my tongue in greeting.
He has come to understand that occasionally I may be busy; I'll always stop to say hi, but he trusts that I'll show willing to socialise first.
I think this is quite amazing thoughtfulness from my friend, who appears to have studied my behaviour as much as I've studied his.

Two ash trees cut down in the neighbourhood, so I've spent several weeks lugging wastebin loads of woodchip up the hill on the sack truck. 30 loads and done, enough to re-cover the entire area and have loads in storage. This is how I manage without heating the house in winter (well, barely). I eat crap and convert all those calories to energy including generating heat even though I'm out in the cold. The fresh surface ready for the spring is a bonus.

Affinity (Freemium, kind of) Windows/Mac (not Linux)

Serif formerly had 3 stand alone Affinity apps: Designer, Photos and Publisher, available for around £50 each. Now they have sold Affinity to Canva who have released one free Affinity app that encapsulates all 3 workspaces. Its pretty good & kind of free, with some potential caveats.

Krita (FOSS)

Krita is a versatile painting application with photo-editing capability that is in many ways better for painting than Photoshop. Extensive brushes and very intuitive to use. I wouldn’t see it as a first line photo-editing app, but would reach for it in preference to Photoshop for painting.

Scribus (FOSS) Win/Mac/Linux

I was pleasantly surprised at how useful Scribus was from a print use perspective. Certainly a potential professional use alternative to InDesign with good output support. Again, once getting used to the different interface I found this quite easy to use.

GIMP (FOSS) Win/Mac/Linux

This is the go to FOSS alternative to PhotoShop. Its very powerful but with a bit of a learning curve for those coming from Adobe. There is a mod to make it a little more like Photoshop called PhotoGIMP (not to be confused with GIMPshop which is no longer supported).
