Three great comedy shows at the NZ comedy festival tonight:
Now hear this: a political themed lineup show hosted by James Nokise. A lot of fun with an enthusiastic crowd who are into politics and perhaps a little left-leaning.
Henry Yan: an awkward guy tries to find love, with some horse and fish jokes for good measure.
Sashi Perera: First time performing in Aotearoa for Sri Lankan-born Australian lawyer become comedian. Very good show, and a great singer!

NZ Comedy Festival continues. Tonight I saw my 11th and 12th shows of the festival:
Ben Knight shared hilarious stories from his time as a teacher, and had songs, animations and even a book!
Dan Boerman is trying to get to the bottom of whether any untrained but confident man could fly a plane. Come for the plane jokes, stay for the nail biting outcome!
NZ music month day 13, and my recommendation is “Drive”, released in March by Bridges:
It has road trip vibes, could be a good one for the car playlist.
Kipling DC is dressed as a Skuxx Cowboy, and it’s a hilariously farcical journey of the cowboy’s life in the mountains.
I went to two great shows tonight, both of which are Billy T nominated, and both of which I highly recommend seeing this week in Wellington or next week in Auckland.
Samantha Hannah’s show Peekaboo is a fun romp through pregnancy and parenthood, with a large dose of ribbing her partner for his eccentricities, which was a lot of fun since I could see him squirming in the row in front of me.
NZ music month day 12, and my song of the day is from Bic Runga, who has been NZ music royalty since the mid 90’s.
In February she released a new album “Red Sunset”. My pick from the album is “Escape from planet Earth”, because it sums up the mood these days:
Day 11 of NZ music month is a deep cut. The band Svelte recorded an album in 1995 called Cape Honey. I never knew of them back then, but was gifted the album later on, and went to their reunion / farewell in 2001.
My favourite of their songs is Exhale. I like the way it builds.
Andrew Bain and Steve Wells went on to join Fur Patrol.

10th of May is a throwback to the charity song done by the Flight of the Conchords in honour of their recent touring. The song itself is fun, but for the full effect I recommend watching the whole video:
Tonight I saw Neil Thornton’s Potential Energy comedy show. A great coverage of the sageful Yoda’s various neuroses, foibles and of the KPoS radio station in his head.
It’s always a fun time at Neil’s shows. Make sure you check for him next festival!

Comedy festival show 7 was Stephen K Amos at the Hannah Playhouse. What a great show! Very fun crowd work, despite me getting called on a couple of times much to my chagrin 😱
If you’re in Auckland, I recommend seeing him tomorrow!

My pick of the bunch is two new songs from Gin Wigmore! It has been a while since she released new material, although of course we’ve heard her on every AirNZ flight in the past 10 years :)

We had a great time at “Zach and Lesa Bought a Gun” tonight at the Fringe Bar. It’s on for a couple more nights, with Zach and Lesa doing separate 30 minute sets on a _wide_ range of topics. I won’t give anything away, but rest assured that there were a lot of laughs tonight!
NZ music month day 7 gives us the release of the new Silcrow song “Unclean”:
It’s a much louder rock song than my previous shares… turn the volume down or you might scare the cats!
Comedy festival show 4 tonight was the very funny Anisa Nandaula, over from Australia for a few shows - if you missed her you’re too late! Very warm and great audience interaction.
Show 5 was Joana Joy’s “So you think you can interpretive dance” - a very fun game show with a panel of comedians (and audience wildcards) doing interpretive dance to surprise songs. A lot of fun to watch, I recommend you check it out!
NZ Music Month day 6:
Today’s recommendation is Autumn by local Wellington singer Emma Kate, which was released late last month:
