Someone announced in our class last week that men don't cry and for the first time in my life, I publicly hit back and said, "I do". Many in the class were shocked and didn't believe me, so I explained how I've always cried. When I was young, it was secretly but as an adult, I cry when emotion overwhelms me. I don't see it as a sign of weakness anymore. I think it's a sign of strength to accept what your body needs to do and I feel much better afterwards.

@gersande One of the best moments in my entire life: walking home at night in my early 20s, moon hanging heavy just above the tree line. Girl walking opposite direction on the other side of the street. She turns to look at what I’m looking at, and startles. OMG, she says. THE MOON, we both say. And we run to meet in the middle of the empty road, grab each other’s hands and just have this intense moment of joy looking up… and then both just carry on and keep walking in opposite directions.

A glimpse BTS at South Island Wildlife Hospital in Chch, NZ. "Although bursting with beautiful birds and passionate people, [SIWH] runs on donations and the smell of an oily rag" Want to donate? https://www.wildlifehospital.co.nz/help-us/ Source: https://1news.co.nz/2023/10/26/south-island-wildlife-hospital-appeals-for-help/ #owlsintowels 💛🦉

It's ten years to the day that this lil guy, a Northern Pygmy Owl, had surgery for a broken wing. The op was possible thanks to supporters of Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah. Want to donate to WRCNU? https://wrcnu.org/donate Source: https://fb.com/1288785674500249 #owlsintowels 💛🦉

Spotted a barred owl on the morning ramble, second time we've seen it in this same perch. It looked about and posed, soon became bored and fell asleep. Sweet dreams! #Hiking #Birding #TextureTuesday #GetOutside #AltText

"Hello darkness my old friend..." I mumble sing as I pull out the light box and stare at the bug zapper-like screen in the morning, before breakfast.

I'm such a plant. I need sufficient sunlight, water, and the right balance of food, or I explore various failure spaces of behavior.

An autistic person can love spending time with you and still need to stop.

Enjoyment doesn't cancel sensory input, processing or fatigue.

When I say I've had enough, that doesn't mean I've had enough of YOU.

It may mean I want to leave while I'm still enjoying us.

It's nuanced.

Two bonded kittens, about two months old, in Bengaluru. A grey tabby and white one and a calico one, litter trained, two rounds of vaccines done and the third due soon. They need to go home together.

Out for a drive a few days ago, and wife saw an elder guy on a bicycle with a fishing pole. She thought it looked like he was jousting with a lance.

Went out and got a poke bowl with kid. They were out of about half their fixings, but we ate there any way. The avocado was off and brown. Without my asking, manager came out and comp'ed both our bowls. Thought that was good business and a nice gesture on their part.

The new #movie "Wildwood" is quite good. Intense, and well made.

I like how writing a book creates something smarter than I am. If I set a couple small stones in a sack each day, it won’t take long before I can no longer lift what I have collected. The small, intentional acts of our days gain a strength and life of their own. There’s a kind of magic in that.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.

Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.

Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too.

Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.
