What's that you say? A UK study aimed at proving that ADHD and autism are over-diagnosed actually found that we are still under-diagnosing both, and lack access to assessments remains a huge barrier to support? What a shocking and unexpected conclusion!

Sometimes I wish socialists actually opposed capitalism.
The French courts yesterday handed down an unfavorable ruling against Quad9 in a major case that undermines the transparency and stability of the internet. As a result, Quad9 will no longer be able to offer its free cyberprotection service to users located in France effective November 24.
It's kinda upsetting and disturbing when you have entire technical orgs where there's already a small minority of women, and most of those women are trans women. Like there's so fucking much misogyny that there's almost ZERO cis women who have been able to tolerate the bullshit misogyny that getting into highly technical fields involves such that it's just those of us who cosplayed as men that survived the gamut.
One benefit of self-hosting Internet services is that you find out how little it takes to run those services and then those massive datacenters really don't make sense.
The US-backed hepatitis B vaccine trial in Guinea-Bissau that drew global backlash has been halted.
The deeply unethical trial intended to withhold the hepatitis B vaccine from half of 14,000 newborns for their first 6 weeks of life to observe non-specific effects and health outcomes.
Almost 1 in 5 adults in Guinea-Bissau carry the virus.
On Tue, Guinea-Bissau police raided the offices of the trial and seized all vaccine doses.

‘Pure arrogance’: anger in Finland as Google illegally fells 250,000 trees for datacentre | Environment | The Guardian

So today some of the worst people on earth using the most environmentally destructive tools on earth brought down a huge part of the internet by exploiting a potential problem found many years ago in PHP which was previously not practical for anyone to exploit.
It only became "practical" to exploit this problem because "AI" came along to automate the boring and repetitive work required to do so. Absurd amounts of computing power were applied specifically to break into other peoples' websites.
Now the same people who are behind this are trying to pretend that they're heroes for finding an exploit.
"AI uncovers critical vulnerabilities", their headline reads. But the vulnerability was only made to be critical by the very same people as hide behind that headline.
Many thousands of websites are offline, many people are losing money, many thousands of people are working hard to try to patch or work around the problem, many small guys are finding it almost impossible to patch, and we're all supposed to be thankful to OpenAI and others involved ? Nah. Fuck off.
Everything about "AI" involves a lot of externalized costs, but I've still yet to see even a single positive thing that has been achieved by "AI". That has definitely not changed today.

(Apologies, will alt text this soon, just on wrong device)
The issue with Gnome was just that gnome-shell-extension-arc-menu was dependent on an earlier version of gnome-shell, and I can live without Arc Menu for a while.
It feels like everything is breaking today.
Unrelated to the aiphpocalypse, probably, Gnome is broken on my laptop.
Follow-up: I've gotten repeated phone calls from the recruiter asking if I can provide alternate email addresses and phone numbers. They told me it's because they're only allowed to submit a candidate for a position with a particular employer once every six months and they were trying to bypass it.
I finally emailed them and said not to contact me again, and blocked the phone number.
So anyway, the recruiter is named Tekfortune, and they've been pressuring me to commit fraud, so I don't trust them.
(damn! I wrote hypothesis correctly on the first try!? i'm on fiya, yo!)
All of the insecurity being exposed by a lot of compute being focused on code. All the transpiling, forced reversed engineering, copyright infringement, emulation...
Is being allowed to happen on purpose...
So that "they" can turn around and say, "you see this is why individuals cannot be allowed to have private compute, everything has to go through OUR servers now. Controlled and monitored."
Choose the fate of a billionaire!
I miss the summer.
here's the article summarising the video: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/10/21/paramilitary-hitman-linked-to-british-right-wing-group-turning-point-uk
I have to imagine this would draw a lot of attention from security researchers to the patches, but I am suspicious that suddenly "AI" found vulnerabilities in widely used code that must immediately be patched with code generated by "AI".
It looks like a coup.
Society is at a crisis point. Democratically, economically, and ecologically, many of the systems we rely on are breaking down. To seriously address the issues requires that we set aside trying to deal with symptoms one at a time and finally reconcile with the underlying causes of capitalism, authoritarianism, and structured hierarchy.
"The maintainers of PHP worked with companies including Wiz, Cloudflare, and OpenAI to develop and release patched version of PHP 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, and 8.5"
Great, the entire World Wide Web will now be slopcoded.
A little off-topic for this account, but just wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you to all the Wikimedia SREs, Incident Coordinators and everyone else involved in keeping Wikipedia up and running during this PHP vulnerability[0].
