I realised this morning while cleaning the kitchen that all of our domestic cleaning products were in some way sustainable or minimising their environmental impact, and this actually surprised me. Because I've never actually put any conscious thought into choosing the best way to minimize the environmental impact of our household cleaning in the way I've made a project of minimising the footprint of other things we do - choosing electronics, cat care, planning our wedding, holidays or DIY and renovations say. For those I've always had to sit down in front of the computer and do a lot of research and planning for the most sustainable way to do things, but the cleaning products are just there, on the supermarket shelf or advertised online and I buy them. And I suddenly realised this is probably because our society genders care about the environment as female, and genders domestic labour as female, so there's an automatic market there in the way there isn't for say tools or gadgets
