I just got a reminder that my name became my legal name seven years ago, alongside updated gender marker. Being in Germany, it went according to the at the time medicalizing, humiliating law that mandated a legal procedure involving a judge. The judge in my mind being the most sympathetic, friendly person in it all, but that was me being lucky.

7 years, already. Just 7 years, too. A lifetime ago. So much happened since, in so little time. It's a little dizzying to imagine. And I nearly completely forgot, even if I remember the day as it happened so clearly. The joy and the triumph. Also the bitter disappointment at my ex-wife. But that was then. This is now. Apart from my own chain of memories, there is nearly nothing connecting "then" to "now".
