In Sumeria one of the most important gods was Inanna, goddess of love and war. In Akkadian, she was Ishtar. In Egypt, Isis. She was equal or above male deities. There was a prolonged, intentional campaign to demote her and put men firmly in charge, especially as "owners" of state-sponsored violence. In Greece, she was Aphrodite, for example and Christians eventually made her a male demon.

Nothing about our current dominant social order is "natural". It was engineered to elevate men and denigrate women on purpose.
