If people would replace "how are you?" (or variants thereof) with "what are you reading right now?", I would be *a lot* better at small talk.

I mean, I know I'm absolutely the exception. But the answer to that is actually pretty likely to be different every time we meet (unlike the answer to "how are you?" which will invariable be some version of "upright and not crying").
