I understand wanting to be here as an escape from the attention economy, but that won't stop it from doing damage to our culture and civics. What needs to happen is an assembling of all the people who hate what algos promote, to build a bigger space where attention is earned.

if AI companies get access to all copyrighted works for free because "it isn't possible to train an AI without it", should we not give free access to all copyrighted works to children because it is not possible to train one without it?

It's becoming the case that it costs more for a business to deploy AI and fire human workers than it does to keep the human workers around. That could be an economic death knell for the whole technology. From me.

People say that it's no use calling out Trump's lies cause he'll just say it's fake news and we'll believe what we want.

That's bullshit but also true. Most people didn't believe legacy media because they were critical thinkers. Cost/tech limited our sources. Alternative perspectives required weirdo friends and/or getting ideological magazines mailed to you.

Today the choices are infinite and we have to consume a greater variety and focus more on journalists' record than if we agree with them.
