The short version: @nileane created the original TangerineUI for Mastodon. When she stepped back from maintaining it, @matt_birchler picked it up as "Tangerine Neue," carrying it through Mastodon's big 4.6 theming overhaul so it kept working at all.

As it's my 13 year anniversary at $CURRENTJOB I guess a reasonable time to announce that I'm staying at $CURRENTJOB and will continue to be doing upstream (and feel blessed to be able to do so).

Apparently Hasbro has begun demanding that CHILD ACTORS in their cartoon series like Peppa Pig sign over the rights for the company to use #AI to clone their voices for future commercial use.
CHILD ACTORS are being asked to sign away control of their voices.
I think this should be illegal. Parents should not have the legal right to sign away their child’s voice or likeness to be turned into corporate assets forever.

Sent what is possibly (even by my standards) the longest mail I've even sent on-list.
But it addresses really serious concerns about the AI trend, as well as the series reviewed in particular.
And I think it really matters.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of Id Software's Quake.
It's hard to convey how revolutionary this game was in 1996. Running on a fast Pentium, it delivered baked lighting, true 3D levels, polygonal enemies, a NIN score and Lovecraftian worlds at around 30 FPS @320x240 😜
It helped pioneer Internet FPS gaming through client-side prediction over 28.8Kb/s modems and drove adoption of early 3D accelerators.
