I'm on a train so I wrote a mandelbrot generator in dc, the unix RPN calculator. So far it runs in gnu dc but not in my Python dc implementation .. yay, bugs to fix.

I don't love the dc language but you can make it do things beyond 'just calculating'. This is the most substantial program I've ever written for it.

The language doesn't directly support iteration (as far as I understand) but a macro can re-invoke itself recursively, or else invoke some other macro which invokes 'q' to quit itself and the enclosing macro.

having to give everything a single letter name is just like going back to BASIC .. except that your subroutines ALSO all get single letter names that are in the same namespace...!
