OMG, mysteries can be such a pain, eh? And so much advice people give + the systems suggested don't seem to help. So here's my attempt to help de-mystify mysteries and give you the tools to make it easier! A full 3 part series.

Here's a game skeleton or micro-#TTRPG I dug up from the slush pile. Inspired by the darker elements of Ghibli films. Be a young person desperately going through encounters to gather resources and reach their loved one in time to save them.
I'd love to see more "Ghibli-inspired" games that actually reflect the darkness and complexity of Ghibli films. What about you? What do you think?

🌞 Good afternoon all my lovely #TTRPG friends! 🌞
The hashtags of the day are #TabletopTuesday to share promos and/or celebrate the hobby and #TTRPGThoughts to share your ideas about games from play advice to #RPGDesign. Let's have some fun and mix it up today!
Dug up from my slush pile, inspired by that dice labels post. Duo game game about The Immortal, who is finally dying and must settle their affairs. The other player is Mother Nature, inhabiting the world and struggling to understand.

Core to the Motif approach is dice labels (or "flavors" in Motif-speak). It's really one of my favorite things! (And I love seeing other designers use dice labels.) Each die is a unique factor. Explore these #TTRPGThoughts with me!

Intrigue & politics are overwhelming for many GMs + hard to engage with for many players, even when the idea itself is appealing. So let's talk about both TTRPG mechanics and psychological tools you can use to more easily bring the intrigue!

BTW this is something I'd encourage other TTRPG gamers (especially designers) to practice. Crunchy bits are *not* my thing. But I wrote a whole robust defense of them, acknowledging their point and appeal. I loathe 4e D&D, but deeply admire the fine design. Preference != quality.
I didn't just write a defense of rules light games. I rebut common criticisms of rules heavy games too! The only hot take here is TTRPGs are wonderful and variety is great! Come see why I think rules heavy games don't deserve the heat.

Instead of a hot take, have an earnest defense of rules light games against common criticisms. I make those games. I started TTRPGs with those games. I earnestly love them. So let's talk about what makes them great and address the critiques!

If we're talking about #dice, let's talk about what I call dice modes! Hear me out: We want our dice to do different things in different games. Dice simulate a world, drive a narrative, or answer questions. What do you think of this idea? Tell me!

Even more dice and Motif talk! Motif loves swingy dice. It's a feature, not a flaw. Each die being a label and counted individually means there's no bell curve for the results. Each result is a swingy die + that's good! Come find out why.
