After a shaky breath, he adds:

He sways gently on the spot, otherwise silent and unmoving, for almost a full minute, then a hand appears over the lower edge of the window, clutching what seems to be a small, credit-card-shaped fish, flapping weakly.
The fish gasps out a tiny 'beep' and the hand withdraws.
