A small bit of news on my effort to bring Mastodon For Harris to the attention of influential people in and around the Harris campaign: I started outreach to lawyers in these positions a few weeks ago. Today, I was connected to one of the most prominent lawyers who has worked on DNC finance and fundraising. This is a lead that has some legs in terms of getting the Harris campaign to at least share from Threads to the fediverse.

Partly period which counts as a view has been a lot longer on PeerTube than on YouTube (30 seconds on PT vs 10 seconds on YT), but they've equalised it in the latest update.

Also I don't think everyone on Mastodon realises they can follow video accounts, if that got more common there would be a lot more following and sharing PeerTube videos.

Firefox forks might be a reasonable short-term solution to the current era of Mozilla paper cuts, but the crisis is ultimately driven by economics.
Browser dev and maintenance is expensive and that pressure is pushing Mozilla towards the same underhanded, advertiser-driven strategies embraced by google et al.
At best firefox-forks are a less well funded version of what Mozilla used (at least publicly) aim for.
