I'm getting somewhere ...

What happened in this change is .. crazy.

I basically asked Fable "what do we need to add to the emulator to boot the Total Recall .hdv disk image" and it wrote a virtual hard disk controller emulator for that.

Not only that, it also _hand assembled_ the 6502 firmware for it. Is this original code or did Fable find it in a book or firmware for an existing card? I'd love to know.

Maybe I should start working on a //e emulator .. DHGR, 128KB .. maybe.

I added hard drive support to my Apple ][+ emulator so now I can boot Total Replay and play the games in it!

The "Unexpected Write" warnings are a bit of a mystery though. I know what some of these are but it is odd to see them all happen at once.

@a2_4am is it possible that is Total Recall trying to discover what hardware the emulator supports?

I'll write a blog post later today about this work but the TL;DR is basically: Rewrote 8500 lines of C to Rust this morning with Claude Code and Fable.

Far from finished but you can play most Apple ][ games!

Only 7 flawless pull requests later I'm playing Frogger. Unbelievable performance of Fable. Most of the 8500 lines of C that I wrote a decade ago are now in modern Rust.

Token cost with Fable to create this SDL frontend for the Apple 1 emulator part ... (part of the Fable promo that ends tomorrow .. I may have enough left to get the Apple ][+ going too)

Now working Krusader ROM on Apple 1 Replica running inside an SDL powered shell. It is pretty crazy how well Fable can convert my code to Rust.

Started a rewrite of my "Emulated Woz Machine" Apple 1 / Replica 1 / ][+ emulator from C to Rust.

An hour later with Fable and I have the full 6502/65C02 test suite passing and also an interactive Replica 1 going.

Really rocking it with Fable on this little side project. I don’t vibe code serious things but for this idea I just prompt and micro manage and holy cow does it work well.

This model is insanely good. I run it at High thinking and although Anthropic said Fable would delegate coding to Opus, it seems that it actually did do 99% of the coding and delegated 1% to Haiku.
