anyway make menuconfig is trying to tell me that i shouldn't enable CONFIG_RESET_ATTACK_MITIGATION unless i make sure to [do some vague bullshit that's not searchable and which no man page describes at all] to undo the effect of the config setting. and after about 15-20 minutes i have realized that: oh, without this setting, the contents of RAM are completely pristine after a reboot, allowing secrets to be exfiltrated without any physical access to the hardware

I'm still baffled how readily major projects adopted curl | sh installers, often with multiple levels of recursive downloading and cloning. just an actually funny level of backdoor opportunities, to say nothing of how easy it is to serve a fake file if someone tries to curl your install script to audit it instead of piping it into the shell using timing. We were taught correctly in college that if you ever do this you'll be laughed out of the place by every serious person. There aren't any serious people left in there.

It's like this with a lot of things. I'm always amazed by how effective the propaganda that rich people don't conspire to do things with each other like this has really been. When I was younger, I was there for a lot of those things, at my job, saying things like "oh sure, sir, that's right, they'll own nothing and be happy. I'll forward your idea for a social contract giga shredder 3000 to these 20 other people" and the replies are shit like "oh yeah, that's friggin awesome. I'll handle the gaslighting part" but then you try to tell people that happened and they're like "um, tinfoil hat much?" If nobody let you in on it, the reason nobody let you in on it is either because you're credulous, soft, and profoundly easy to manipulate, or it's because you're too unstable to be trusted with sensitive information.

Not only are conspiracies possible, they are literally necessary to have anything remotely resembling the world system. Closed door proceedings and open door proceedings are kept separate explicitly to control perception and contain secret deliberations. Sometimes it's benign or even beneficial stuff, like collaborating to distribute and store food, medicine, or electric power, or making sure your new sci-fi novel is a surprise and a bestseller lots of people will get to enjoy. Sometimes it's evil shit like lying to justify a price gouging scheme, enforcement of usury, committing genocide to steal resources and land, and so on.

In a real sense, there are as many conspiracies as there are secret organized activities, and there are a lot of those. I grew up in a literal clan, and let me tell you: lotta secret plans. They don't need to tell the workers what they're up to to get it done. It's called an alibi! You don't have to choose between this atomized view of the world as a bunch of accidents with the embarrassing credulity that comes out of that and thinking that 5G is turning the frogs gay.

You can learn about what is actually happening without taking wild leaps on the one hand or reflexively downplaying every suspicious thing you see on the other. You have to dismantle the givens of the world to see the world, like you have to use a system stronger than Peano arithmetic to prove many things about Peano arithmetic.

In Kenya we don't have an empire... Imperialism without an empire manifests as foolishness. It also manifests as cruelty and negligence.

I'll add to this by stressing that I'm in no way trying to idealize the conditions in the countries that have been ravaged by imperialism.

But, there is a long and heavily documented history surrounding how the imperialist and settler-colonial mentality now present in these places was primarily brought by invasion and occupation. While many such countries have since won or been granted independence, the scars remain and shape the far darker kind of violence that this kind of extreme extractive and abusive relationship with family and state bring.

My point is not that these countries are perfect. My point is that these countries have to work on this without intervention, while we can learn from the way they survived and are still surviving the colonial era. The thing that repairs their social fabric in the wake of what we did to them will be the same thing that repairs our own social fabric. Imperialism is, first and foremost, something a nation does to itself.

There are people surviving every day in the face of constant bombing and displacement. What first worlders need to understand, that you are brainwashed not to understand because you view the majority cultures and belief systems of the third world as barbaric and inferior in ways you don't recognize as conditioned bias, is that the way they do this is not by letting the strong survive and the weak perish.

In fact, it's exactly the opposite, it's an instance of the accusation being a confession. Our meek are convinced they have no place in the world and our strong believe the meek are a burden. We are afraid to prepare ourselves for this not because we are more compassionate, but because we are less compassionate.

The disabled and the sick are not typically abandoned and so their social structures maintain integrity even under heavy bombardment and constant psychic assault. We will not have any hope of surviving this until we can adopt the same faith that we are not alone. Faith is not passive. It is a monad that reproduces itself by enforcing the conditions of its productivity; following the same law as life itself.

If you're constantly infuriated and lonely because you're "right" about how it's going down, you're not right, because you're still not seeing the part your own attitude and bad faith plays in our downfall. In that case, you're just as conceited as the people who know nothing. You have to believe in the power of love.

This is not a pacifist message. This is about how we strengthen one another instead of blaming one another for weakness, so we outlast the people who want to kill us. Remember that history shows fascists always eat their own in the end. It's a simple matter of numbers that we win if we eat theirs instead of ours.

You can't be strong on your own, but you can be someone's strength. Everyone has a role to play, even and especially the most vulnerable. You may not realize what yours is, and if that's so, it's probably because you don't understand how important you are to someone else. Support each other!

Don't just let them kill you. Initiative is everything in survival.
