Tonight I watched this frightening lecture by Yuval Noah Harari about how AI can and maybe will impact or even attack human civilization. It does that on what it knows best: words. And words are the basis of our bureaucracy, of our financial system, of our legal system. Just like the chess AI knows chess better than humans, this new AI will defeat us on bureaucracy.

On Monday, the US Supreme Court decided in Trump v. Slaughter that the US Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) may not be independent anymore. According to EU treaty law, such oversight must be independent. In the current EU-US deal, the European Commission relies on the independent FTC 259 (!) times. Max Schrems: “Given that there are no independent authorities in the US anymore, we call on the European Commission to orderly withdraw the adequacy decision on the US.”

Ondertussen is het 3½ maanden verder en zijn bijna alle antwoorden binnen. Ik hoop binnenkort een eerste korte analyse te kunnen publiceren, maar om toch al een tipje van de sluier te lichten: tot nu toe is geen enkel van de projecten verder gekomen dan de pilotfase.

AI steelt niet alleen, maar presenteert het daarna ook nog eens als zelf bedacht, zonder naar het origineel te verwijzen, waardoor de bezoeker niet meer naar Wikipedia gaat en daar door gaat zoeken om dat het geheel keurig aan elkaar is gelinkt, met bronnen. Al deze pageviews, die ook nog eens nieuwe vrijwilligers binnenbrengen, worden gemist. En die bronnen drogen ook op. Want wie gaat er nu nog een website beginnen als dat door AI geen bezoekers meer oplevert?

Apparently I can host my own chat relay & don't need to use someone else's infrastructure, but I haven't tested that yet.
