This is my #Javascript game engine for making #retro style chunky #pixel games. It'll probably always be a WIP - scaling, rotating, and raycasting is still to come for a start - but it's totally usable in it's current state.

Genuinely hope at least one person at least starts making an at least half baked idea of a game in this thing! 🤞

Owned these scales for about 6 years I think. This might be the first time I've actually needed to use their extendable control pad feature which is basically what we chose them for. 😆

I still need to get it all up on Codeberg before I can launch the documentation site, and I need to write some demo scripts to go in there too. Docs are full of example code but nothing really of substance.

It shouldn't be this difficult to find bun trays that aren't coated in some toxic non-stick layer, but also aren't just floppy silicon that can't be scrubbed clean. #askFedi ? 🤞

Where are all the stainless steel uncoated bun trays? Or pure ceramics that aren't just ceramic coated (apparently they're problematic too)?

We used to have an anodised aluminium one but once they're scratched they're just leachy aluminium. I've found a couple of these but as AI images without proper dimensions.

Oohh I'd forgotten how delicious cherries are. No wonder the objective of basically every early computer game was to collect them! 🍒

I mean, I guess you can ask an LLM to do something like... "Replace all instances of $foo with $bah but only where a value is being assigned to it, not where it's an output". I guess that's a prompt right? And it's not a simple F&R.

But if I did this, I'd then have to feed the whole codebase into a diff checker to make sure it did it right.

Or I could just throw a regex together that looks for instances followed by an equal sign and then I'd know it replaced accurately. That's less work, no? 🤨

I get that some people like AI coding tools. We can't all be in this trade because we love writing code - some just want to get a thing done and will take whatever seems like the easiest route. I get that.

But I don't understand why I keep seeing people using it for find and replace?

We've always had find and replace. We've always had editors that can do this across a whole codebase. And with regex pattern matching where you're in complete control of the pattern.

What do LLMs add to that? 🤨

The latest Terrible Toybox contractor agreement has a 218 word section about how you can't use AI and it was written by a real life human lawyer, so you know I'm serious. AI is a cancer to the creative process and I do consider programing to be a creative process.

It's been 3 full days so far, and a zillion emails between 4 parties. The half I've done still isn't working. The half I haven't done can't be done until this half is working. And I'm no longer even sure how to do the second half. I've also already quoted on another thing that'll, if approved, mean amending part of how this thing works... Which it currently doesn't anyway...

A 1 bloody hour project. 😩
