Gotta love how anything less than actively eulogizing Kirk (while also being careful never to actually quote him) is not just a fireable but a *deportable* offense on the one hand, while on the other hand a Fox News host straight-up called for the reinstatement of Aktion T4 on air and gets away today with a quarter-assed, carefully scripted nonpology.
Ahh, the joy of the annual "attempt to spin wheels on new year plans/goals" routine.
Having some space to attempt to actually implement some for the first time in several years should hopefully make that work out a little better this time at least..
Holy shit.
The Russian gov send in an abuse request for the @Bellingcat to be removed from mstdn.social :amaze:
I am not gonna comply, and have replied to Hetzner
No way I'm gonna let the evils of the gremlin dictate stuff on anything I host
UPDATE: Hetzner ignores their requests and we're in the clear: https://mstdn.social/@stux/113662573364116275
Dear Front I/O Pin Headers:

That is all.

#WaPo kinda stepped in it with that one, didn't they?
And now to inflict my franchise upon the candidates...
I remain kind of "wait what" about the fact that the most consistently-recurring attempted spammer on the forum I'm modding is one advertising custom spellcasting services.
It's a good sign when the province announces updates to the Residential Tenancies Act and, in the same announcement, reiterates that they think any mechanisms for *enforcing* the act are inappropriate, thus rendering the law optional.
Right?
I just stumbled over an AI prompt generator, because apparently there are people who feel tossing a prompt at the artbot is too onerous and need a *second* bot to decide what they want to ask for for them...
Well, didn't have "Singh decides to hand Poilievre the next 5-10 years in power a little sooner, shortly after Poilievre instructed him to do so" on my bingo card for today's news cycle.
Poking at modly duties, see a sketchy-looking new user post along the lines of "I was shopping for [thing] and saw this at [site], should I get it or look into something else?"
Check the user's profile, see his email address is "outreach@[that site]."
Good job, buddy!
Half tempted to contact the site just to berate them not for the spamming but for being so completely halfassed about it.
[insert standard bewailment of oppressive mugginess here]
Dear Package Of Salt:
Is it *truly* necessary for you to specify that your contents are not genetically engineered?

Ahhh, that feeling of vague relief when nothing in the Steam sale feels terribly compelling...
Nabbing tickets for this year's local SF/etc convention now that I'm free to attend for the first time in several years. (Well, assuming nothing blows up locally between now and November I suppose?)
Last time I went, they just emailed me the things. This time, having to wade through multiple third-party sites and accounts, one of which also kept trying to push a mobile app Because Reasons, just to get a hold of said tickets definitely has me feeling this thread:
In a recent fit of madness I agreed to become a mod on a forum I've hung out on for ages, specifically for their debate/current-events section, which flips between "placid" and "obnoxious melee" at the drop of a hat.
(Penance for .. something, I guess?)
Today I had to bring out the spray bottle in (of all the topics) the Mideast news thread, to shut down a brewing fight over ... the MLA stylebook's authority over what writing style's permitted in a casual forum.
...
Why is the internet?
Been taking in the usual mostly quiet backyard night sounds when we got a brief, sudden, weirdly intense local burst of rain out of nowhere for a few seconds.
I think the backyard sounds just taught me the raccoon method of saying "hey, WTF?"
Eyeing the "week of overcast/rain" forecast ahead of the incoming light show and admiring the consistency of my ongoing Interesting Sky Things Curse.
Still boggling that the sky actually cooperated fully for the eclipse...
