My screenshot below, after 1 day of uptime, kinda disagrees (also the fact that my parents run GNOME fine on 4 GB of RAM).

We romanticize the fact that we used to fit all our OS and apps within 2-4 GB RAM, but we forget we used to do a lot less. Browsers' tabs are >80% of my RAM usage nowadays.

Added a "Similar apps" section to Bazaar today, making it easier to discover alternative or complementary apps.

It works by doing some fancy pre-calculated matrix math on the apps metadata to surface somewhat decent results without having to track any actual user data.

I've been throwing together a local, offline #OCR app for #gnome and #linux. It serves a need for me professionally, but I'm also planning to release it publicly once I can polish it up and get the kinks ironed out. Using the PP-OCRv6 inference engine, it provides high accuracy, is multilingual, fully offline, and hardware accelerated. (The UI is very much a work in progress -- would appreciate any advice on that front 😅) Thinking of calling it Mojitori, Japanese for "character-taking".

Gnome hatred very often has similar energy to prejudice towards marginalized groups. You have an entity that you strongly dislike the aesthetic of which is popular apparently only because corporations are pushing it, something that has “infiltrated the space” and you blame every single problem you have on it and want it gone.

If you don’t like gnome this doesn’t necessarily mean you fall into this category, everyone has preferences, but in general I think there is very clear reason why the desktop wars are inhabited so densely by right wing freaks who do nothing but sit on discord and run fastfetch

I just did it - after playing around with Asahi (Plasma) I finally did reinstall it from scratch with Gnome. Now this feels like home for me. Ncspot solved my media playback issues, Ghostty works with shaders. Will take this machine for travelling and vacation. Proudly wearing my Asahi merch, thanks @AsahiLinux

He's been working on it for the last 2 years. It reuses the Evolution Data Server backend, combining its reliability with an adaptive GTK4+libAdwaita GUI.

It also handles contacts and calendaring (by embedding GNOME Calendar as a widget)! Future versions will allow using it not just as a PIM but also as a standalone mail app.

The Strata Extension is now part of @gnome Extensions: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/10291/strata/

Strata is a project aiming to solve general clipboard issues on #Linux by using a two-component approach: a desktop-agnostic Rust daemon doing all the "heavy" work and communicating it to the front end using D-Bus. That way, the front-end only needs to draw the results thus making is stutter-free technically, and a front-end (only for #Gnome actually).
