I also went to the opening last week but when I went to do this exact thing the guy who coded the vending system was there and he was like "oh please don't 🥺" as soon as I reached towards the corner that would unlock it, so I took pity on him
went to the Haight Street Art Center to look at stuff my dad contributed to their grateful dead show and I did in fact force their vending machine into developer mode just to take a selfie in front of it

I'm heading home after this weekend and while it's been good to be here in many ways, I am really excited for:
- being in aotearoa instead of the states, in general
- cooking my own food in my own house
- holding my cats
- being able to work on my website again without typing HTML or God forbid JS on my phone

None of this, of course, strictly matters but I do think it's hilarious because my mom is obsessed with IQ points as a real measurement and I can whip out the lead paint anecdotes and watch her face journey as she thinks about how I was robbed of a MENSA membership or whatever (which she earnestly paid for at one point for herself. Too funny)
I'm actually a malfunctioning meat golem from 1993 though, which makes my performance more impressive. I also used to eat paint chips I peeled off the benches at school, and then the whole school got closed because it turns out all the paint was full of lead. So between that and the various head injuries, I'm actually doing really well and should be praised for keeping myself alive this long, let alone being kinda funny on the Internet
My hobby is making posts with crazy overuse of intensifiers like very/really/extremely and a lot of strange repetitive word choices and typos you only get when you hear the words in your head before typing them (like putting "might" instead of "mite" when you know very well what both those words mean) and of course parentheticals (on each of which I then have to ask my wife for advice, specifically where to put punctuation occuring near the end of the parenthetical) (much to think about) and then never editing a thing. This way you understand that I could never be an LLM. A malfunctioning Markov chain bot from 1999 maybe, but not a modern LLM
It's been really nice seeing Godot come out with a really sensible and well-justified LLM contribution policy to go with a lot of their other excellent policies. My shameful admission is that before a small gig a few years ago had me work briefly with Gergely Kis of Migeran and LibGodot fame (who was and is a technical genius and was very humbling to be around as a result, but also a very nice guy) I had really never played with Godot or taken it seriously as a competitor to the powerhouses of Unity and Unreal, even though I had already stopped using both of those. It's not a perfect engine but it has both its heart in the right place and a community of people who want to make cool things with it and I'm so happy I've been able to teach it to highschoolers for years now :)

I now travel with a portable CO2 monitor. Outdoors it reads around 400 parts per million. In a closed meeting room with a handful of people in it, I have watched it climb past 2,000. The photo here is a real reading: 2,143.
That number matters more than it looks. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory put people in a chamber and varied only the CO2. At 1,000 ppm, performance dropped significantly on six of nine decision-making measures compared with a clean-air baseline of 600. At 2,500 ppm, seven of the nine fell substantially, some into a range they called dysfunctional. A separate study out of Harvard found cognitive scores declining as CO2 rose, with the steepest losses in exactly the domains you called the meeting for: strategy, planning, and using information under pressure.

I adapted the existing specs of the 16" and 19" and it taught me so much, from compiling to submitting a MR. Everything now works perfectly on my GNU/Linux KDE Neon Plasma... Feeling accomplished!
