I think the saddest part of the LLM infection of open-source software development is the loss of trust in each other. Beforehand, if somebody submitted some bad code, it could be assumed it was either a mistake or they weren't well-versed enough with the codebase. Nowadays, any code submitted by an unknown party brings immediate scrutiny and a "guilty until proven innocent" mentality. Its a valid defense mechanism, but I will never forgive the corpos for this.

apparently the one program on my laptop that doesn't explode when you give it 8mhz (yes, mega*hertz*, not megabit) audio is pw-play
aplay stretches it to 384khz
paplay says Failed to determine sample specification from file., (or Invalid sample specification if you try to force it)
ffmpeg freezes up
vlc has the timer work, but acts like there's no audio stream (doesn't open driver and sets volume to 0%)
pw-play, of course, just plays it like normal. no errors, no "what the fuck are you doing", just plays it.

When I was a kid, every time I asked my mom what a word meant, she said, "I don't know. Look it up." So, I'd walk my ass over to the book case, and pull out the dictionary and find it, and then memorize it. And then my mom would have me teach her what the meaning was.

She did this because doing shit yourself--finding knowledge for yourself, doing shit the hard way--makes you a capable person. And it helps you know something more deeply.
