As a GP in Germany, I struggle with the claim that “people don’t want to work.” In daily practice, I see the opposite: many patients push themselves to keep working, even when they should rest. They worry about burdening colleagues, unfinished tasks, or upcoming deadlines.

If we want to understand rising sick leave, we need to look at real factors: increasing workload, constant pressure, lack of recovery time, social isolation, and overall exhaustion. Reducing this to a question of “motivation” ignores both evidence and lived experience.

In my experience, people who genuinely try to avoid work are a tiny minority. Framing the issue this way feels similar to old narratives about unemployment—oversimplified, misleading, and disconnected from reality.

Es ar rokdarbu projektiem (šobrīd - lāpīšanas, bet arī tamborēšanas, u.c.) iekrītu kaut kādā apstāšanās spirālē, kad es sāku darīt, secinu, ka iet krietni lēnāk nekā man gribētos, tas mani demoralizē, un tad man mazāk gribas to darīt, un, līdz ar to iet vēl lēnāk... Droši vien tas, ka es tad rezultātā daru mazāk, un īpaši neiespringstu uz ātrumu (skatos "fonā" video, un sašuju teju neko) neuzlabo manas ātršūšanas spējas.

Today, an unknown bot swarm started using my name, boosting my posts, and inserting itself into communities I helped create. I treated it like any other potential attack and started defending myself and our communities as best I could. This has taken up more of my day than most malicious bot attacks, because it had the air of legitimacy—despite taking the actions of a threat.

When the owner, @evan ¹, came in with the same justifications as the porn-scrapers and LLM-owners I regularly fight against—repeatedly doubling-down in the face of backlash²—I felt more and more sure of my response.

I now feel justified in calling for a #FediBlock of tags.pub (and probably his other projects), at least until a better opt-in consent model is built into the project.

The thing I hated about Twitter was its users' eagerness to escalate every argument. It was never enough to say you disagree with someone, you had to call them an evil nazi who deserved to die ... for their idiotic opinion on the best Oreo flavour.

Been reading the disagreement between Alice and Evan on whether it's right to have bots automatically boost other people's toots. They've both been polite, if determined; however someone else jumped in to say it was "like rape."
