If japanese media engages in orientalism of the middle east, maybe influenced by 19th cent. european art, is it technically occidentalism? Or does that only apply to outside study of "the west"?

I started with the “complicated” piece in 2021 or 2022. I finished the hand embroidery but it didn’t feel done, so I stashed it for years. I recently learned to do needle tatting and thought it would be exactly what this piece needed!

That was true enough to get me to also make the “simple” piece, which was tedious because I couldn’t leave any errors at all in it. I had to frog whole lines three times.

RIP Tony Hoare, whose wisdom is needed more every day.

This being Fedi, I know there will be someone reading this who is a chronically depressed, poly disaster transfem always narrowly avoiding poverty by being a somewhat-but-not-really successful self-employed freelance web developer, who has strong opinions about the modern web, free software, the semantic web and structured data, and who kind-of-but-not-really mourns what XHTML could have been while actually thinking HTML5 as written is kinda neat, but who is constantly forced by Society (tm) to work with React, Wordpress and awful bloated web app frameworks to create terrible, non-semantic style-first web applications for ungrateful clients.

I can't guarantee anything but let's say, I know someone who needs a static website for their business. Hypothetically, uh, where could that someone reach out to you? Paid, of course.

IOS autocorrect changing “hell” to “he’ll” six times in a row.

Bloomberg makes you accept their Terms of Service, including the “arbitration provision” and class action waiver, just to read a fucking article. And automatically opts you in to selling your data to third parties. With no way to opt out until after clicking “accept”.

Most likely, no human typed the word “permission” here. Rather, they misspelled “persimmon” in such a way that autocorrect considered “permission” the closest valid word.

Pure spellchecking that *flagged* the typo would have alerted the user, who would have made the right choice.

Spellcheckers are great, but no serious writer/translator/copy-editor should enable autocorrect (let alone software that meddles in even more complex and unpredictable ways).

So I know about #MerMay, and I know all about the October daily drawing challenges like #Inktober and #Arttrober and so forth...

But are there any other regular art prompts / themes that I should know about?

Just thinking ahead to June and beyond. It would be nice to have some more art prompts across the year to look forward to—particularly ones other artists in the Fediverse like to participate in.
